Repair of 7938 Engine
Repair of 7938 Engine
How do I try and repair my grandson/s 7938 engine. While I was not around, it just stopped working. I have replaced all of the batteries and tried to insure all connections are secure. No obvious sign of a break in any of the wires. Thanks for any advice.

If it's newer you can email / call them and they would send you a new one for free.

(1) the (non rechargable) AAA battery pack on the train
a) make sure the batteries are all good, if not replace batteries
if batteries leaked, clean metal contacts inside the battery pack
b) all batteries are put in correctly, if not then fix battery polarity
c) when the battery pack is working when you turn it on the green Led goes on
if the green lights don't go on then review 1(a) and 1(b)
d) if you have a rechargable Li Ion AAA battery pack there is a 2hr timer that
automatically shuts the battery pack off. To reset the battery pack press the
"power button" down for longer than 10 seconds then release. If battery pack
light does not go on - recharge the battery pack pack before attempting to
reset the battery pack.again
-----------------------------------------------------------------
(2) the AA batteries on the remote controller are okay
a) make sure the batteries are all good, if not replace batteries
if batteries have leaked - clean metal contacts inside remote controller
b) all batteries are put in correctly, if not then fix battery polarity
c) the battery pack is on when you twist the joystick the led blink
if the Led does not blink then review 2(a) and 2(b)
----------------------------------------------------------------
(3) to check the train motor - attach the train motor directly to
the AAA battery pack and turn on the battery pack.
if train motor goes on then the train motor is good
if train motor fails to go on then the train motor is bad, replace train motor
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
(4) if train motor, battery, and remote control are working
then check that the IR receiver wiring-connections are good
if IR receiver and IR remote controller are not set to the same channel ( 1,2,3,4)
Then set so both are using the same channel
make sure that when you are operating the IR controller
that you do not cover up the IR emitter in the front
Test the IR receiver-controller operating range INDOORS
(outdoor sunlight lowers the IR receiver-controller range to about 10 feet )
If IR receiver fails to go on (indoors) with working Ir remote controller using the same channel
then While there is another channel, test to see if that channel will work
If all channels fail then replace IR receiver
