TRU free Palpatine's Arrest w/ purchase of Star Wars UCS set

Post by zskid00 » Tue Nov 12, 2013 8:28 am

Toys R Us online had a similar promotion last week for a free Y-wing with purchase of any Star Wars UCS set. The UCS X-wing 10240 is now back in stock at MSRP of $199 and comes with a free Palpatine's Arrest set 9526.

This seems like a pretty good deal for a set priced at $75 on the TRU site right now and $89 through LEGO directly. This must be TRU's way of getting around the no discount policy on the larger exclusive LEGO sets.

Does the Palpatine's Arrest set count as a big exclusive? I thought it was only 10xxx sets?

However still a great deal if you want the overpriced huge X-Wing.

Yeah I don't think Palpatine counts as an exclusive, look what TRU did last week.

I guess I should clarify. The UCS sets seem to be excluded from the LEGO % off coupons going forward and third party sites (Amazon, TRU, Walmart, Target) haven't been able to discount them so it would seem getting a free set with purchase is TRU's way of offering a better deal on these sets than anyone else. The Palpatine's Arrest set probably has a market value of $60-70 according to ebay so you essentially score the UCS X-wing for ~$150 after tax which is a 25% discount. I understand that the X-wing set is probably overpriced to begin with, but unless LEGO changes their stance it's unlikely you'll find a better deal on this set any time soon.

That set was not on the "no discount" list.

Yeah no one wants the B-Wing, even LEGO had it for 50% off.

And I see what you are saying, no more % discounts, but now you can give out free sets. Works well. Get rid of some sets that clearly aren't selling while "discounting" a set you can't discount normally.

Sorry to derail this thread, one last bit - Here's the Death Star discounted, if you have a POL then it's around $380 shipped. (Not that much of a discount I guess.)

Since the B-Wing is Sold Out Retired, Walmart,Target,Amazon can charge what they want, Lego is only worried about them selling active sets cheaper than retail.

Oh look, shocking. The x-wing is not available online, but shows as "sold in stores." How nicely that fits with this online only offer.

The Promo Ad is only to increase online buzz, item will be available as soon as the offer expires.

The X-wing was in stock for several days during the Y-wing promotion. It sold out and came back in stock on Monday I think. It looks like it sold out again yesterday afternoon. If TRU pulled it, they sure took their time. I got my order in on Monday and it already shipped.

This is an ok deal really, if Lego holds true to the no discounts on the collectors sets. Hopefully other stores take note and start offering a gift with purchase to get around the new policy. I could see Target or Walmart offering free GC's or something with these sets.

Thank you for the heads up zskid00!
I already had the Palpatine set from the deal earlier this month but adding a second one will allow me to keep one and give one to my nephew this Christmas :) I can't believe it, but I folded and purchased the Death Star.
An early awesome holiday for all!

I know they are skirting the rules but they are definitely hurting the intent. I say Lego will soon ban promos as well with these hard to find sets.
