I love the way this looks. Terrific little detailed buildings -- The blue plates on the bottoms is a great touch! I'm amazed that this could possibly be 334 pieces, with so much going on.

Too bad it's $50, would be a great $35 or $40 set. Really pretty design.

Hey, where is the Jack Sparrow figure? Oops, I thought it was a POTC set.
Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Nah, those sets don't come out until 2015 with the new movie. :-D

Looks like a great set - the new box design is quite nice.

Since there was no "lake town chase" in the book it means the movie will continue to stray from the original story. Can't complain too much since we get nice looking sets from it.

MINOR SPOILER

One of the many variances from the book that has been talked about for awhile now is that Thorin's company doesn't ride ponies around the lake to get to the Lonely Mtn. Instead they take a boat across it. I believe that is the boat in this set.

Sure thing, reviewers are always welcome to speak their minds. I have already seen some reviews on youtube. Personally I do not have the set nor would I buy it at regular price. From looking at all the info given. I will give a quick short review in my opinion.

Minifigs: 6/10 (Bilbo, like Gandalf, just how many of him we really need? Another Thorin, so nothing new there, on the remaining 3 we will get Bard again in the next wave, based on figures, I would recommend 79014 Dol Guldur Battle over this)
Parts: 7/10 (good for castle fans)
Price: 7/10 (price wise it is on par with pieces count)
Design: 6/10 (meh, nothing amazing)
Conclusion: 6.5/10

I agree with this set being a little on the high side of pricing. But, it's nice looking and I will be trying to add it to my collection. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to get it for 30 or 35 bucks on one sale or another(I'm finding more and more patience really pays off).

Question though:

Have they announced what the next wave will be? First I've heard of it is why I am asking.

The 2012 Hobbit sets mentioned 2013 Lotr sets in the back of the instructions. That is not the case in 2013 Hobbit sets, so no announcements yet. Hopefully they will have one more wave of Lotr sets and the tower of Orthanc is not the last. :)
