April Fool for [Raffle] Win a 7915 Imperial V-Wing Starfight

Post by legohunter » Sun Apr 01, 2012 6:36 am

Ice, that's a good joke. A small gift is very easy to make people believe it is ture. If you tell members that you will give out a box set of Star Wars M.Falcon, I believe members must hestitate to submit the post.

Now, take your time to verify/identify the "NEW" member who registered this morning for your raffle contest.

Anyway, Happy April Fools.

You were right, legohunter. It seems a lot of people read quickly or not at all, seeing as how the original post stated...
Raffle giveaway is open for one week only until April 7, 2011 at 21:00 PST
That being said, most of the entrants seem to be lurkers who came out of the woodwork at the chance of something free, so I don't feel so bad

Well played guys! To be honest, I missed the date on the post.

Not as bad as Brickset's April fools joke. I would've been pissed if I paid $1500 for UCS MF to find out that next month it will be on sale for $500.

Honestly, I missed the date thing too, but I was suspicious that it was a joke due to the date that it appeared. But then I thought that putting up a fake contest might be illegal, so I thought what the heck. It was funny watching all the lurker coming out of the closet. Well played.

Well played. I missed the date, but even then I was 99% sure it was a joke. But if it wasn't... I wanted to win!

:-D

I didn't read the date. I'm not surprised it was a joke, because of the date. It even crossed my mind (after I'd attempted to enter). But I figured I'd hate to miss a chance to win something because I was afraid of being fooled.

I'll be a fool for free Lego anyday...

Heh, wasn't expecting much either. But I thought this contest would run the same way last years Brother-brick's April fools prank. They posted that one luck contestan would win 800 chrome stormtroopers and in the end there were over 800 comments. The people over the TBB decided to actually give away 5 chrome stormtroopers because people were getting mad.

LOL, As usually happens in the real world, people's greed interferes with the normal operation of their eyes and their brain. It's why we have the environmental crisis we do now.

It was probably because the prize was relatively modest that fooled so many people. If you were giving away a Death Star or something, more people's alarm bells would've gone off. Or maybe not - there's still a lot of desperate lurkers out there regardless. LOL Maybe for a future contest, restrict it to members with 20 or more forum posts.

If they did, lurkers would be posting random rubbish into the threads trying to get to the 20+ post count.

Well I did know that it was a AP prank (and I even scrolled through the topic just to be sure, hence the " ;-) "), but to be honest with things like this I wouldn't have given some more thought on the date anyway (besides the april first indicator). The notion of winning something like this did persuade me though :-D
