Mini Modular "Halo effect"

I had just recently decided that I'd be okay with only owning the modular buildings from the Grand Emporium to present (no Town Hall yet, but will at some point).

I even made the silly assumption -- suggested by Jamie Berard in the Mini Modular YouTube video -- that buying the Mini Modulars would somehow satisfy my desire to get the REAL Cafe Corner, Green Grocer and to a lesser extent MS.

How wrong I was...

I've been slowly putting the Mini Modulars together and enjoying every minute of it. I even went as far as laughing out loud -- yes, lol'ing -- as I learned the clever building techniques involved.

Sounds like a real love story, except now, only a few days after building the mini CC I'm about $100 into Bricklinking a (fairly heavily modified) Cafe Corner and my love of the Mini Modulars has turned to bitterness because they tricked me into wanting the actual Modulars I thought I could live without just a few short days ago.

Curse you Mini Modulars!

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar reaction: an iPod/Apple-like "halo effect" from the mini Modulars.

I really suggest getting the Mini Modulars -- but remember, be strong...be strong.

Same exact thing happened to us. We've never bought any of the modulars because we missed the first 3 and we are completists. So we got the mini modulars to satisfy our desire for the large modulars. Didn't work and had the exact opposite effect. While we loved the techniques in the mini modulars and it inspired us to build our own for the contest here, we started buying the large modulars. We have the Fire Brigade, Pet Shop and Grand Emporium. We don't have the Town Hall yet, but it's next. It's going to be really hard not to do what you're doing and buying pieces on bricklink to recreate the first 3.

So yes, curse you LEGO! Your devious ways have tricked us into buying the modulars when we were trying to stay away. lol!

I'm lucky I got the Green Grocer when I did, but I still don't, and probably never will have, the Cafe Corner, the set I want more than any other. Sometimes I have dreams about finding a MISB Cafe Corner sitting on the side of the road, just waiting for me to take it home... :(

I have dreams of finding the CC, GG, and MS in a thrift store. For $10.

Ha! I literally went theough the same thought -- I drove past a new thrift store and joked to my wife, "what if they have all three of the modular buildings we don't have for $20." Then I continued to let my mind imagine some kind of crazy deal like that.

Glad I'm not alone
