[CAN] Homesense clearance (City of Atlantis at $44)

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted already, but in case anybody missed it, Home Sense is having a clearance on their Lego (as reported yesterday by fuelbreak over at Brickset). They don't have much, but here's what I saw in-store today:

7985 City of Atlantis $44*
7326 Rise of the Spinx $38
8096 Emperor Palpatin'e Shuttle (don't remember exactly, but about 25% off)
A couple of other things, mostly 25% off

*I also saw this at $59.99, but it may scan at $44.

All three stores had different amounts of stock, so YMMV.

If, like me, you missed out on TRU's boxing day sale for the Atlantis theme, this is a good opportunity to pick up City of Atlantis (and it's a better deal; $44.97 vs $44 for a $90 set! )

Wow, the poster Kotton from the states on Brickset listed these prices:
PQ Pyramid - $16.04
Portal to Atlantis - $16.03
City of Atlantis - $6.98
SW Advent Calendar - $4.98

Now that is some crazy clearance pricing down in the states compared to what we are paying here. For example, City of Atllantis is 6-7 times cheaper than what Homesense is clearing them out for. We Canadians are truley being ripped off up here when it comes to clearances.

its not that canadians are being ripped off - if retailers go below 50% they are losing money. There is so much stock and retail in the states they can go that route to get rid of these. I am sure these may get red tag if buyers stay away. Until canada reaches 5-10x the population we have today and all the corresponding services, retail, etc that goes with serving that population and combined that with a down economy, our retail prices/choices/stock will never reach these clearance levels. Though I recall crazy clearance prices on lego in the early 2000s in zellers, winners, and the Bay when the popularity of lego was not there compared to today and lego itself was having financial troubles. But still never to the above levels of discount.

I also read the clearance prices on those sets in the States and was shocked to see how low they could go. Honestly, TLG has been spoiling the US buyers and encouraging secondary market to grow. With deep discounts like these, anyone can make a decent profit on ebay by just selling at MSRP. This will in return benefit TLG when the resellers spend their profits on Lego again. TLG is very smart in doing this, making the US the world's capital of reselling Lego when buyers can snatch sets for unbelievable prices and turn them into profits, and these profits go back to TLG's annual financial reports.

Canada will never have a secondary market because of our inflated prices and rare good sales. Sales on kijiji.ca appear sluggish unless they are rare / high-demand sets. Thanks to TLG, we will never enjoy as much Lego fun as our friends just across the border do.

Finally bit the bullet and bought Atlantis for $32 last weekend.

I honestly don't think the Atlantis set is worth more than that. It has the front look of Athens architecture but nothing really inside the "city". I can't imagine TLG can call it a "city" with just a temple shape of building. The playability may be good for young kids but I don't think they are interested in the Atlantis line at all (that's why they don't sell). Piece count is only good if you count all those 1x1 circle pieces that are everywhere. Took me a long time to debate whether $32 was worth it. If it was $7 US as the other person mentioned then I would have got a few just for the parts.

Agreed. You'd have to buy 10 of these and make your own "city" - which would be fun if they were nice and cheap, but even at $30 a pop that's a very expensive proposition.
