Cashback/Rebates/Promotion/Retailer Credit Card Discount

Post by slisa51 » Sat Feb 26, 2011 5:50 am

This is nothing to get excited about. I can get all of these sets at most times for 19% off or better. So 10% is not a great deal. Lego store sales seem to only be good for clearance items. If you want to save extra be to apply for store credit cards that have big discounts.
Toys r us 4% back and 8% in December plus 2-10% more with there free rewards card
Target 5% off at time of purchase
Amazon 3% back and no sales tax or shipping

[MOD Added Note:] Please post all related cashback/rebates/promotion/credit card/retailer card promotions in this thread.

It's easy to say this so please point out these magical places you can get 19% off or better on all of these sets (without having to apply for a special credit card, or have a special store credit card). I never said you couldn't snipe a 20% off deal on Amazon when they randomly throw one out for 4 hours. They don't happen all the time, and don't last for long, or have high availability most of the time.

Sometimes us AFOLs forget Lego is for kids under 18 who don't always have access to credit cards. I also don't want to go get special cards... or be told which credit card to put it on.
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.

If you don't want to get a credit card then nevermind, just take the 10% off deal. I forget the majority of people who are buying these are under 18 with no credit card but have access to a Lego store and hundreds off dollars in cash. On top of which its not 10% off, its 10% off your next purchase after a $150+ purchase. Let me know if you want me to post a specific deal on a set, I am not going to post a deal for all of these.
For example the Fire Brigade
Target
149.99 with free shipping.
Minus 5% for target card 7.50
Minus 10% coupon code tgtp9a9t with target card only
Minus 4% Mrrebates.com works everytime
Total 121.49 Plus Tax

or with no credit but great Lego store deal
149.99 plus shipping or free store pick up if you live near one, then you get 15.00 off your next purchse, and dont forget the anaconda farr keychain.

As of now, target has the grand emporium in stock for the same deal as the fire brigade.

Glad you are such a nice community member who helps people rather than just bash them.... <sarcasm>

Instead of taking pot-shots, you could have just posted this sale information ... You could have easily posted this info in the sales/deals or the threads that ASK for help finding deals... I'm sure not all of us know about some special target-card only discount/coupon code. Or other 'add on discounts'. That is the whole reason why we post here...if you don't want to help others find that info... don't bother to post.

Either way, there's no need to be so rude just because people don't know the same info as you, is not available to them, or just plain don't want to use the same route you use

I did'nt come on here to bash anyone, but once you said "Magical Places" to buy Lego I got offended, like I'm making it up.

Here is the order I placed for my Fire Brigade at a magical place to prove I'm not making it up

The following items have been shipped to you by Amazon.com:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Qty Item Price Shipped Subtotal

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Amazon.com items (Sold by Amazon.com, LLC) :

1 LEGO Creator Fire Brigade ... $139.99 1 $139.99

Shipped via UPS

Tracking number: 1ZW06A590379149120

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Item Subtotal: $139.99
Shipping and handling: $9.05
Super Saver Discount: $-9.05
Promotion Applied: $-35.00
Total: $104.99
Paid by Visa: $104.99

Thats after a $10 off a $100 purchase promo to get it to 139.99 and then 25% off plus free shipping and no sales tax and then 3% more with a cashback amazon visa that does'nt show here.
Don't worry I will not trouble anyone in the future with my Rude posts on deals.

MOD Edit: The posts above are from [WORLD] LEGOShop.com Double VIP Points: March 2011. (it was getting off topic and more towards other sources of discount) From now on, this thread will be dedicated to discounts obtained via cashback, rebates, etc.

@ slisa51and Luciant
It looks like both parties did not mean what they actually mean. Due to the diction used, it led to a misleading idea causing both of you to feel offended. Afterall, its just miscommunication. So slisa51, theres no need to think that posting deals are rude. The info is more than welcome and much appreciated here. Now lets put this "bashing" aside and continue discussing about these deals. Thanks guys. ;)

I got a particular credit card recently that gets 5 points (easily 5% if redeemed for gift card) on any Amazon order. It's supposed to be for book stores but amazon shows up as a book store somehow even if no books are in the order. The card is the Citi Forward visa.

Note that I got that card not really for amazon Lego. My old card decided to add fees so I'm canceling it.

I actually really appreciate Ice redirecting all this information. I agree that both of us got offended prematurely. This is EXACTLY where my line of thought was going with my thinking, rather than meaning to offend. Bring this information into it's OWN thread to get people informed so if they want to choose these options, they can do so. Always good to different options right?

I really do appreciate this information slisa, as I didn't know Target had "extra" discount on top of the Red Card (and AAA which I'm not a member of). Nor about the other coupon website. I've considered getting a Target card for a while, and that might have pushed me over. Especially since rewards are immediate. Need more convincing for TRU or Amazon card tho :P
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.
