Any news from the 2014 FanExpo?

Post by mobilelinkage » Thu Aug 28, 2014 11:26 am

As topic. Anyone went to the FanExpo, and purchased the Canadian version of the SW Ghost Starship? How much is it and does it worth a visit? It's a limited run so I assume there is a unique number associate to each? What freebie are they giving out (at the Lego Booth of course)?

Saw those too, don't think anyone is going to put down that kind of money for that set though. The Star Wars Rebels series hasn't even started yet.

heh… good luck with that. Far more valuable items from Comic Con (ex. New York Comic Con 2012 Luke Skywalkers Mini Landspeeder) go for $120-$150 max.

What is exclusive about this set? Isn't the figure the same one as in The Ghost set? People could just build this with some loose bricks ordered on Bricklink, unless they like to pay hundreds of dollars just for the box.

One of the freebies today was the Star Wars TC-4 minifigure. Not sure what else was given away, but by noon the freebie line had been dismantled so I can only assume that it was done for the day.

As for the Ghost Ship, it costs $45. You need to line up to get a ticket. They have two lineups a day – first one as soon as the show opens for the day, the second around 2pm. I was told there were 250 sets available per day split evenly between the two lineup sessions.

I got to the booth around 10:20 this morning (Friday) and the tickets were all gone (the show is super busy). If you're near the end of the lineup to pay for the ship you're looking at a long wait... I'd estimate between 45 mins to an hour. There's only one cash that all people need to go through and if anyone goes inside the small shop (it's tiny) to purchase something other than the Ghost Ship they get to go right to the cash delaying the process further.

Although I'm not sure why anyone would purchase anything else there as the prices are all rounded up and slightly higher than what you pay at retail. There are no sales and limited selection.

For what it's worth, I can only assume the booth was managed by Merlin Entertainments and LEGO has nothing directly to do with it. It has the same feeling as the LEGOLAND Discovery Centres.

The displays themselves are okay, a bat-cycle, a Batman, and a couple of other things. There were also a couple of guess the number of bricks contests. I didn't pay attention to the prizes as I didn't want to spend the time to fill out the cards.

Overall, I wasn't impressed.

Some greedy people who want to make a quick buck just buy without any knowledge of the product or the market, kind of like some of the people Lego hire and that is a fact. Laughable at those on trying to flip this, but sad really, kind of make me feel sorry for them if they have disabilities.
