The zellers on simcoe in oshawa had quite a bit of lego, to the point that they were displaying a lot of it right at the entrance. Tons more at the toy section. I was only really looking at the star wars sets, but they had lots of other stuff too.

Not collecting SW lego at this moment so didn't get it.
Plus, that set can be had for around $35 BNIB from bricklink.

^Was the disappointment that big that you were thinking about resolving to these drastic measures (MEGA*****S)?

I'm a big fan of Halo and I have to say that Banshee sure looks appealing. For only a few bucks, its defintely better than buying a toy at the dollar store. Of course, nothing beats LEGO though.

On a side note, they're copying LEGO Friends now as I see that they're now making Mega Bloks Barbie. LOL

Sorry about that! I do buy used LEGO here and there and MEGABLOCKS has become a contentious issue for myself as folks always mix LEGO and MEGABLOCKS - countless hours of sorting is the end result.

MEGABLOCKS is certainly good for the more price-concious folks.

No worries man! I don't really like MegaBloks too. It really is frustrating when Megabloks gets mixed up with LEGO!

That being said, building blocks has become a perfectly competitive market after LEGO lost its patent. While clone brands are @?*!, the benefits of having these other brands is that it would force LEGO to continue to innovate. If there are no competitors, firms start becoming lazy or price things super high since they're a monopoly (i.e eBay).

Was in the Barrie Zellers on Friday, and they had some lego left. Monday, it was literally all gone with the exception of Hero Factory and few Cars sets. Sad, sad day. Zellers may not have been the best store in the world, but I remember when the Barrie location opened, I was there on opening day. (God I'm old.) I'll try to be there on the last day just for nostalgia. They closed the restaurant for the last time a couple of days ago.

Even clone brands are not cheap, on a decent day they can be 10c/pc, depending on what is licensed. Of all clones, the "super" brand is very overpriced for its quality being the worst.

@Awesotastic: I thought the Oshawa-Simcoe location closed down 2 months ago.
