Will try it today. If they reject it, I will raise a stink about it right then and there. I purchased the Border's Rewards Plus membership earlier this year in order to get a greater discount on Legos (which I spend hundreds on per year there)...and they suddenly disallowed it. This will be my first time back in a Borders store since. We'll see what happens.

One way to make the UPC readable by their scanner is to: open Photoshop, enhance the DPI to 170, increase brightness/contrast to remove JPEG artifacts around text, regenerate the bar, plop in on top of the poor quality one, and print it out on a laser printer.

Convincing the cashier to try to scan it is another story.

I went there today and even though they had a bunch of LEGO, I didn't feel like I wanted any of their selection.

I went to a closing Borders today since I was in the area (Braintree, MA). I grabbed a bunch of the coupons but just noticed that these ones exclude Toys, games etc. :( They also expire June 4th...so it looks like different stores might have different coupons, maybe based on their closing date. This one seems to be for the Massachusetts area b/c it lists 3 other stores that are remaining open.

Athough I just noticed that the bar code is the same as the above number, so if you go w/ the other coupon it might not scan for toys if they've reprogrammed the number.

Also just an FYI, these coupons are on glossy paper and have stuff on the back so it would be very obvious if you take the scan above and try to use it, but YMMV, depending on whether the cashier is aware etc.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to see if there are any books I need.

i buy a lot of legos at Borders when they have a 40% off coupon. Borders prices seem to start higher than elsewhere but with the coupon it is a good deal. However now some of the coupons exclude toys (ie legos) so watch them closely.
