Well, if merchants only shipped to the credit card address, then how could anyone ever send a gift without taking receipt of item , then paying to reship? eBay is well aware of fraud and certainly has more means than Lego to catch it.
Lego is just like any other merchant, has item in stock, accepts a valid order, collects payment, ships order. eBay accepts any jerk to sell a virtual item, with no history, pays fraudulent seller, and doesn't care when informed of a scam. PayPal could easily withhold new merchant funds for 30-60 days, and pay scammed company the funds, in this case Lego, when made aware, and not criminal seller.
eBay is more than aware, makes money on the sale on both ends, has the capabilities to employ bots to combat this with ease....new seller, selling new sets at reduced price...simple formula. I think Lego and similar merchants should sue them for all losses. Clearly their greed makes me angry.
Lego is a nice privately held company, whereas eBay is just another hungry beast beholden to greedy shareholders. All of us on here could take advantage of this eBay selling model flaw, but most choose not to once we learn of the fraud due to our respect and fondness for Lego.
