Re: [US/CA] LEGO Store Calendar November 2012
This will be my first Brick Friday, so I'm pretending not to read all the "meh" comments about last year. I, for one, am excited: discounted sets plus scratch off cards plus holiday set plus PaB box = the only gosh darned reason I will venture onto the battlefield of holiday shopping.

Yeah, it's one of the most notable sales of the year. People on the internet tend to get dramatic.brickarmor wrote:This will be my first Brick Friday, so I'm pretending not to read all the "meh" comments about last year. The one thing to understand and expect though, is that it is extremely unlikely to get anything other than a 10% off scratcher card. People last year who chatted up the employees said that maybe one person the entire day gets a 20% coupon, and the 50% is unheard of it seems. As long as you go in knowing that and adjust your expectations accordingly.

I scored a 20% off last year. It stacked with the other discounts. I think you have about a 1 in 10 chance of the 20% off and 1 in 100 for the 50%.

Re: [US/CA] LEGO Store Calendar November 2012
So I just got a new LEGO catalog in the mail and it has a 10% off coupon on the back page good at LEGO stores. So if I buy the Joust set now it would be $12 off and I would get $10 in VIP points. Pretty sure I'll be able to buy bonus holiday set for less than $22 in the future and I really don't have an additional $99 in sets that I would want besides Joust for Black Friday... Thanks LEGO for making the choose for me with the coupon...
Re: [US/CA] LEGO Store Calendar November 2012
Wouldn't it be a 17$ dollar difference since you would get 5$ vip anyways?
I am not saying you are wrong, but I would be more worried about the qty of holiday sets this year. The last time it was over a long period(month and a half?) and there was 2 different ones. This one is for 3 days only over black friday weekend, so the total number produced would be less imo. Could be totally wrong and the holiday set could be a dud, we haven't seen it yet as far as I know.

Edit: I think I just figured out that you meant I'd be getting $5 in VIP regardless of when purchased... I can see your argument there, makes good sense...
Double VIP points in October = 215 points = $10
Add that to the ~$12 discount w/ 10% off coupon and you get $22...

Re: Choices...
I recommend waiting till Black Friday. The ruboff will most likely be 10% off, you'll get a free mini set, plus a pick a brick box. The box is worth $15, because it holds at least as many pieces as a large plastic cup. If you strike now you'll get 10% off, but the current double points is only worth $5. You'll lose $10 plus the value of the miniset. In the meantime, if Amazon reduces the set again you can order it & use the catalog coupon for something else on Black Friday.scatmanjack wrote:So do I buy the Joust set before October 31 and get double VIP points or buy it Black Friday at an unknown discount and get the bonus holiday set...? Tough choice... If I had gotten on the 23% off sale last week this would be a moot point.

The blurry fine print on the bottom of page 2 makes it sound like the bonus holiday set and bonus pick-a-brick offer cannot be combinded. Perhaps a manager may let it go through bit I'm thinking most people won't be successful...

Re: [US/CA] LEGO Store Calendar November 2012
So if I go into a Lego store on Black Friday and buy Pet shop for $150. I would get 10% off, making it $135. Then I would get 135 VIP points, making it ~$129. I would get a free PAB holiday box worth about $15, and a free Holiday Set, (4 minifigures and a horse I'd say similar to gandalf Arrives at $12.99) worth $13. Making my Pet shop purchase $129 and getting $178 worth of goods. That's a 28% discount. Not bad.
Can't wait to see this Holiday set, it sounds really good.

Thanks! That sounds great, actually. I was just thinking I need to add a sleigh and some wreaths to decorate the modulars for Christmas.grogall wrote:Yes!bea wrote:Does anyone know what the free holiday set is?

Assuming this will be available to the pre-BF invitee only event next Saturday. Anyone know for certain?
Re: [US/CA] LEGO Store Calendar November 2012
Did you get an invitation for Pre-BF like last year? Bummer, I didn't get one this year. :( Didn't spend enough money. haha.legodork wrote:Assuming this will be available to the pre-BF invitee only event next Saturday. Anyone know for certain?
Re: [US/CA] LEGO Store Calendar November 2012
I did get an invite. My first time. I don't think I spent that much but I visit the store not infrequently and every time I buy something I make sure to fill out my online user experience reviews. In any event, I'm looking forward to this event.Gooker1 wrote:Did you get an invitation for Pre-BF like last year? Thanks, grogal! That's a wonderful little addition to the Winter Village.

Cool set, did anyone know the pre-BF invite comes directly from email or regular mail? Thanks.

Got to help build it at the store and got a pic of the box. Great little set. If every $10 set was this packed with great stuff I'd be in a lot of trouble.
