The page with the coupons appears to be gone now from the TRU website. Tried two different zipcodes and had the same result.

kwkw: I wonder if TRU will figure out what they are doing wrong. I think they will assume LEGO isn't as hot of a product as it was compared to past sales. But in reality, their idea of increasing margins by going far above MSRP on LEGO just drove customers to other venues.
When Helm's Deep is $159.99 + tax at the San Rafael, CA location (they go beyond the regular TRU markup) and you can get the same one on Amazon for $101, who is going to be stupid enough to spend $72 extra?
Even if you use the $15 coupon at TRU _and_ Amazon starts charging CA tax, you are still looking at a $50 difference.

I just ordered the Lego Superheroes Batman Dynamic Duo Escape and a series 7 minifig using the 10 bucks off deal online. I couldn't find the place to print the 15 dollar coupon for in store, so I just ordered online to pick up at store. I got both for about 45 bucks total :D
Re: [USA] ToysRUs $15 off $50 LEGO Purchase
Not to nitpick your point, but Amazon is going to start taking out California sales tax starting next month (maybe even 3 days from now on Sept 1st? I'm not sure.) Just so you know.SpaceNinjaDino wrote: Even if you use the $15 coupon at TRU _and_ Amazon starts charging CA tax, you are still looking at a $50 difference.

Been tried before, highly doubt it will work now.Zeya wrote:Not to nitpick your point, but Amazon is going to start taking out California sales tax starting next month (maybe even 3 days from now on Sept 1st? Re: [USA] ToysRUs $15 off $50 LEGO Purchase
Yeah, Amazon will be collecting California sales tax starting (sometime) in September. Then they're going to get most of it back as profit because unemployment is so bad here that various municipalities have offered to gift most of the taxes back to Amazon in exchange for the jobs a fulfillment center would bring.
Re: [USA] ToysRUs $15 off $50 LEGO Purchase
Looks like Amazon's gonna be charging tax in CA starting on Sept 15th so get your sets before then.

Some people are just misinformed and get ripped off by TRU. Not everyone is a die hard lego fan like us, so some people will just impulse buy something for their kids when they're at TRU to make them happy. The only way to get TRU to stop inflating their prices is to completely boycott buying lego from them. But the likelyhood of this happening is slim to none as there will always be the uninformed majority ruling over the knowledgeable minority. Also it hurts me to say it but there are occasionally decent deals to be found at TRU and they do stock more various lego sets than any other retailer other than the Lego store (also you can find discontinued sets there as well). These reasons will keep TRU on their feet until a larger toy store chain can take its place (which is very unlikely).SpaceNinjaDino wrote:kwkw: I wonder if TRU will figure out what they are doing wrong. very few people are misinformed in this economy. and your saying of "uninformed majority ruling over the knowledgeable minority" is laughable. it's always the opposite.kwkw wrote: Some people are just misinformed and get ripped off by TRU. those that do buy toys at the higher price are those without the time or without the resources. US is very big, so likely those that buy from TRU when there are cheaper alternatives is because of the convenience. most rich folks won't mind spending the extra 50c for a series 8 minifigure than to spend the time hunting one down from a wally or target. i have had a few folks that buy from me for even higher than TRU prices and when i google map the address, it confirms my theory. either remote homes in the country side (and those are usually very large and posh), or very big houses. these folks value time more over the small fee, so they rather pay others to do the legwork for them.
if you are patient and don't mind losing out on a set (in case it discontinue before you jump on it), you should just wait it out. many thought that PotC was going to be a huge hit. it's now discounted for 30% or more on amazon and it ships everywhere. we're also seeing SW sets for 30% discount.
you will probably see more such deals here and in amazon.es. UK is in a double dip recession. europe is very close to one if not already in it and US is hovering just above a double dip and has 8% unemployment for more than 2 years now. the regular consumers have no more money to spend. wait it out and get a better deal. besides, if you are not patient at all, you can always sign up for B&N and get the sets for 28% off during regular season. it's a pain for the $25 membership but if you buy more than $312.50 a year, you would have saved enough. or you can just open a new account every 3 months and sign up for a trial membership. would require tons of email account though.

I was able to print the right coupon from the Toys R Us website, but alas, my Toys R Us was out of the Series 8 collectible minifigs.

When did you print this coupon? Where was it on the website? Thanks.
Re: [USA] ToysRUs $15 off $50 LEGO Purchase
My local TRU did not honor the coupon because there was no "bar code" on the coupon according to the manager. BS if you ask me. Customer service was horrendous. TRU needs to get there act together.
Re: [USA] ToysRUs $15 off $50 LEGO Purchase
We could have a very long discussion about the uninformed majority vs the informed minority but I'll leave that for another time. In regards to your rich people value time and convenience over an increased lego fee, why don't they just buy off amazon or any other online retailer that charges at most msrp+tax and/or shipping, even when sets arn't discounted this is still a better deal than TRU's marked up prices. This saves them time and money. Also if they're gonna drive to a TRU brick and mortar store why don't they just stop by a Wal-mart or Target (who have mostly the same sets @msrp and have a lot more stores in America than TRU, so even if they are in the remote countryside and they decide to drive to the store there's a better chance that there is a Wally or Target closer to them than a TRU.) In regards to your 50cent more for series minifigs, that's understandable if they want to go feel for figs since most Wally's and Targets don't carry them and the lego store always runs out after the day they are stocked (but doesn't this also negate the time and convenience part of your argument since they are spending their valuable time feeling for minifigs? ) They could always just order off the Lego s@h site to save time. So how is TRU still in business? this goes back to my argument-uninformed consumers (cause even if some rich people don't care about how much they spend, they will still be a very small minority that wouldn't have been able to keep TRU afloat for all these years, so the only explanation is uninformed consumers.)natelite wrote:very few people are misinformed in this economy. and your saying of "uninformed majority ruling over the knowledgeable minority" is laughable. it's always the opposite.kwkw wrote: Some people are just misinformed and get ripped off by TRU. And me personally I've never bought a set at msrp, the most I've paid was 14% off the msrp (which coincidently was at TRU for the creator seaside house when they were running the 15 off 50 deal and i only bought that cause my gf wanted it bad), so i can wait for the sales/clearances/deals. No more TRU for me unless they get there act together.

Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

What do u mean by resources? Money? If they're rich they got plenty. Explain please.natelite wrote:^^ you clearly missed the part where i said missing resources.
Re: [USA] ToysRUs $15 off $50 LEGO Purchase
I am quite ticked at TRU for this whole disappearing $15 coupon crap.
Re: [USA] ToysRUs $15 off $50 LEGO Purchase
Did anyone else get a 'Save $5 on your toy purchase of $25 or more' coupon in email, which is good today thru Monday? If so, has anyone tried to stack it with the $10 off $50 in store? It seems to indicate it's not valid with any other offer, but sometimes the register just allows it.
Re: [USA] ToysRUs $15 off $50 LEGO Purchase
The 5$ coupon did stack with the 10$ off 50$. Made it out to TRU today, no beeps, manager override or anything.
Re: [USA] ToysRUs $15 off $50 LEGO Purchase
is this coupon unique? if not, post please cause I didn't get one. Thank you.sidersdd wrote:Did anyone else get a 'Save $5 on your toy purchase of $25 or more' coupon in email, which is good today thru Monday?
