LEGO Store Black Friday?

Do anyone know if Lego stores put sets on clearance before retiring them or do they just take them out?

My Sacramento Lego store occasionally has clearances that kind of coincide with online clearances. Maybe twice a year they'll have a large amount of clearance piled up in the middle of the store. Sometimes they just ship them back to be clearanced online or elsewhere, as they did with Indiana Jones, it all depends if they need the space.

Same LEGO store I go too, and like you say once in awhile they will put them in the middle on clearance but not always or someone buys them before I see them :P

I've been trying to decide whether I should buy a few big sets during double-points month or wait until Black Friday for an assumed 10% off, with a chance of 20% off. Then again, you have to factor in the "hassle" factor of going to a mall on Black Friday! :)

10% instance is diff from 10% double points. the former is applied in your purchase, the later is applied to future purchase. the diff in this case is around $0.90 for every $100. :D not large. but at 33% it becomes substantial. eg. bogo 1/2 off vs b2g1 free.

Last year TRU had the Star Wars Twilight exclusive for about 40% off.

Target had an Indy set and Trolls warship. Wish I would have gotten those.

Last year TRU had Mobile Command Center at 50% off, if I remember correctly. I spent most of Thankgsgiving night waiting in line to get it.

Target had an Indy set and Trolls warship. Wish I would have gotten those.

Probably not. I'd guess one of the recently discontinued sets of this year.

Black friday sets are usually oos and no longer in production sets. So this rules out any hp sets.

My first guess would have been PoP but I doubt there's enough stock anywhere to support a large sale @ every branch of a retail store. My 2nd guess would have been Toy Story but I really hope I'm wrong.

Last year was my first Lego hunt on Black Friday. I suspected the TRU SW Twilight wasn't a hot seller but thought maybe TRU picks a SW set and a different themed set or something.

But it would be impossible for me to pass on these!

Remember people this is no guerantee that Target will have these 2 sets as their $50 sets, this is just based on their past History mind you.

its hard to say how Black Friday will be done this year since alot of stores are now spreading out the days when they do these deals due to the deaths and dangers caused by the black friday sales, most stores have been getting pressured by groups concerned about the death toll occuring at stores on Black Fridays.

This is a no brainer. Double vip point is at best 9.9% (yes, not even a full 10% - see my other post for the explanation). if you buy on nov 26, you get min of 10% and vip points and pab box above $75 purchase. That's total of 14.45% (not 14.5% since you only get to apply the 5% vip point in a future purchase) and a free pab box. Assuming you buy more than $75.

I don't get why ppl get so excited over double vip points. Guess that's why I'm not in marketing. :D. "Oh dbl vip pts! That's like 10% off! Better buy tons of lego!" On the other hand, the 22% deal I posted hardly get anyone excited. What I also don't get is normal vip gives you 5% already. So at best, the dbl vip offer is only 5% extra. Btw it's 4.95% not 5% because it applies only to future purchase.

You can almost always find better deal outside of lego stores. I only get the magnets and other unavailable sets like the winter bakery, space shuttle or kingdoms calendar from lego stores.

@natelite - I agree. I like that there is a VIP program but it's mostly an afterthought, even with double VIP points. TRU and Borders are consistently a better place to buy. I mostly just purchase the Lego Direct sets at the Lego stores unless it's Black Friday or one of their twice yearly sales. Through the store calendars, Lego often advertises things like 5 Bonus VIP points if you purchase Set ABC during Week XYZ. Even in next month's calendar, you receive 50 Bonus VIP points for purchasing the Castle. $2.50 off? I picked up 2 castles at TRU this Summer, each at $25.00 off. And the more I purchase at TRU, the more they send me $5 and $10 Reward Bucks and 20% Off One Item coupons, etc. TRU's marketing promotions easily outweigh the downside of their recent markups.

To support that a bit more, its 4.950495 percent off because all the lego sets ends in $.99. This means when you buy a $99.99 set, you only get 99 points. You need to buy a $109.99 set to get 100 points so you can get a $5 gift card. Your points is valid on your next purchase. Honestly, the points thing is one of those marketing strategy that gets people to buy more.

Here in Canada, we have Zellers that offers points. They give you something like 100 points even for buying a $1.5-$2 bottle drink. Lots of points right? But to redeem a $10 gift card, you need 80 000 points. That works out to be something like $1200-$1600 that you must spend to get $10. This works out to be something like 0.83 of a percent off (not even 1%!). So lego is already being more than generous giving us 4.95% off compared to other retailers here.
