I just got an email saying that my Helm's Deep order from yesterday has been cancelled.

I looks like the coupon exclusion clause has been added to ALL Lego, not just LOTR. Even the super heroes sets and X-wing now have it.

Pong0814, I feel your pain. I've tried placing an order for Helm's Deep three times in the last two weeks and all were canceled. I tried to get B&N to honor the orders, but all I got was runaround and lies. At one point a manager in their Sales Audit group insisted that "Lego is a puzzle and puzzles are excluded in the terms and conditions of the Kids Club welcome coupon." Actually, a closer reading of verbiage shows that "children's puzzles" are specifically INCLUDED, not excluded.

Very unhappy with how B&N weasels out of allowing valid discounts. Congratulations to everyone that's been able to make good on the coupon codes.

Just received my batcave yesterday. It took 20 days for processing and shipping to west coast. The lego box was in excellent condition, and it was nice that the delivery guys did not crushed it (My Republic Frigate got crushed last year).

When I looked closely to my invoice, I found that 12% GST was applied to my order instead of U.S tax :-|. I wonder what's the tax rate BN.com would use if the order was from a Canadian province without HST? Did BN.com recently update its billing system so that it could keep tracking the tax rate for all provinces/states of every countries?

You only get charged us tax if you order from canada and deliver to US address! Not sure if you already know this but what bn puts on the invoice is not what you paid - all invoices to canada has always included both taxes gst+pst or hst, but what you actually paid is shown on your credit card statement or paypal account and is less than shown on the invoice you get with your package. This has been the case since I began ordering from bn in 2005, even when it was 7% and 6% gst and ontario still had pst. I suggest double checking your statements and invoices.

Now if you are saying that you got charged 12% on your credit card or paypal, then that's new/different. Ontario has 13% hst now but I have always been charged gst only for bn orders including the latest LOTR sets.

Will be interesting to see if future sets (i.e. the new Star Wars wave) will have the restrictions on it right away - I really hope not as BN is pretty much the only source for cheaper LEGO when you're a Canadian (unless you do a lot of US trips when you live in a border area).

Does anybody know if the kids club coupons still work on Lego sets in the store?

if you are in the GTA, always check out bn first but they are not the only source - you have to be willing to buy from kijiji/craigslist where sometimes you find people selling at 25% off, and no tax. Yes there are alot of sellers that jack up the price but you have to weed out those - unfortunately the sellers that are wiling to give buyers a break are the minority. I bought urakai army for $30cdn (25% off, no tax so about 35% off actually). bn price was $29 usd after coupons/shipping. mines of moria was available for $75cdn compared to $66-70us depending on your coupon. I also picked the two hot ninjago sets for 25% off retail (epic dragon battle and sonic raider). They are selling on ebay for $150-200usd - toysrus.ca has epic battle for $150! Also picked up batman fun house for 25% off retail. on kijiji I also bumped into an employee from lego store that was willing to sell for 50% off msrp! You never know what kind of people you can find online!

So when bn has these coupon exclusions, you have no choice but to find other sources!

I've never had any issues using a coupon in store, thats the main reason I like buying in store with membership (ymmv not all barnes and noble's have a good lego selection so its understandable if you dislike shopping in store) The 10%off member discount stacks with the % off single item coupons and I never have issue using coupons like I do online (they work sometimes, then they dont, or they only work on some things, its all confusing and not very straight forward)

I got a kids club coupon to work a few weeks ago on a Helm's Deep set after spending almost an hour on the phone with B&N employees.

First I was talking to some guy who spoke very poor English and kept entering my info wrong. At first the coupon wasn't working but after about 15 minutes of going through different steps and checking with his manager he finally got it to work. Right before he placed the order, however, the set was showing up as out of stock so he couldn't complete the order!?

I checked back online about a half hour later and the set was back in stock. I called again and got some woman who was able to get all my info much faster. However, the coupon wasn't working for her either. Eventually she told me I could just place the order and they could apply the coupon before they shipped the set or something and it would take the 30% off before charging my card. This seemed to of worked.

Unfortunately when I got the set it was beat up like no other. The shipping box looked fine but the set itself looked like someone might of actually tampered with it, I am not sure. I didn't bother checking it out, I just returned it immediately. The box was crushed in several spots and one of thew flaps was ripped and the tap off.

I wonder if the warehouse pickers and packers see the prices paid for the items they have to pick and pack. ...30% off hmm, lets find the worst looking box to fill this order! LOL. I worked in a warehouse before (picking, packing, and shipping/receiving) so I am pretty sure the pickers do not see prices paid but the packers who put the invoices in the package for sure can see.

Received my Attack on Weathertop in mint condition. My helms deep box was pushed in on the ends, appears they shoved it into a box that was a half inch to short.

That is their favorite way to pack large lego. Their favorite way to pack small lego boxes is with too much packing paper so that the lego box is crushed when they close the shipping box. So thoughtful.

If you want to keep the crushed one, you may be able to get a small additional discount from customer service - they've done that for me but only when I haven't used a coupon so I don't know for sure that it is possible.

Just got 20% coupon (expires 7/4) in e-mail and got 10% membership discount at store and was able to use 20% coupon for Mine of Moria. Coupon wasn't good for online purchase.

Not sure if printed coupon will work for you, but if you want to give it a try. It is for members only.

All the other sets I ordered from B &N came in fantastic condition so I found it a little weird the Helm's Deep was the exact opposite.

Like I said, it looked like someone might of bought it, took something, out and returned it. The actual shipping box I got was fine but the Helm's Deep box was crushed all over and the tape was cut and all sorts of other issues. I didn't even bother to look inside to see if anything was opened or missing, I returned it as soon as I possibly could.
