BrickWarriors Toy Fair Report

Post by vynsane » Thu Feb 19, 2015 7:57 pm

The guys from BrickWarriors were exhibiting at Toy Fair this year, and I chatted with them for a bit. They gave me two Warrior Packs - one from Wave 1 and one from Wave 2 to check out:

While they may look like they should be blind-bag packages, they're actually clear from the back so you can see what you're getting:

The pieces I got are apparently the Galaxy Enforcer Armor and Helmet with the Riot Shield, "French Assault Rifle" and "Skewer SMG" in the Wave 1 pack and the Android Armor and Head, "Vengeance AR", "Deadly Cricket" and "Austrian Bull Pup" in the Wave 2 pack.

The pieces are very high quality, with lots of details and the colors match very closely to official LEGO colors. The armor can sometimes be a bit snug, causing me to worry about scratching the printing on the torso. The shoulder pads on the armor tend to restrict movement of the arms and can also prevent the figure from holding the weapons. According to their website, these packs are priced at $8.00 each.

Thanks for the review and for stopping by at Toy Fair! The hacker guy from Agents looks awesome with that android armor.

I've purchased these packs at my local Five Below. I did a review on my blog a while back.

Just noticed that you commented on this - yeah, no problem, it was awesome to get a look at these. The combo of the Agents hacker helmet and the BW armor really goes to show how closely you've matched the colors, really great job on that.

Good review!

I placed an order from BrickWarriors less than a year ago and have meaning to do a review but haven't found the time. I was very pleased with the quality of parts and selection. While one can quickly amass a hefty purchase IF they buy large quantities of the more expensive parts there are lots of very cheap and reasonably priced items. My problem was that I was buying things that interested me (without a clear project in mind... that can add up) AND I was placing the order for two reasons: I had to have the Ogre Armor and was creating my own mixture of goodies as gifts for my son and kids of co-workers (that live in my classroom after school chatting all about the new LEGO products and all superhero news). If I didn't have to manage a classroom of students in the first half of the day it would be heaven :-D Anyway my order quickly added up because I was buying a significant amount of items for several people (including myself).

One can easily buy a few of the higher prices items and lots of cheaper ones without creating a huge order. Just decide what it is that you want and consider what you plan to do with them.

I hope to do a review in the future or at least post some pictures of characters with some of the items when I can. For now I'll mention some of my already purchased items, want in next order and favorite items (both already purchased and desired in next order).
Please note the prices listed were accurate as I'm writing but may drop or rise in the future.

Here are some of the items that I've already purchased for myself and others:
Ogre armor (two head "pegs" on top so that one can create a 2x headed warrior) $0.99 http://www.brickwarriors.com/ogre-armor/
Brute Armor (you have to see it.. its different, fun and great) http://www.brickwarriors.com/brute-armor/
Demon armor (wings sold separately) 1.65
Demon wings (LEGO has wings too... but I definitely like brickwarriors armor better than the chima armor) 1.65
Steampunk rifle .42 (great item and price... which I bought more than one)
Bear trap $1.00 Cool item check it out at the link http://www.brickwarriors.com/bear-trap/ Its very well designed and sturdy
Death in the box ("present" with removeable lid for evil 'jack in a box effect") 48cents
buzz saw hand 50cents
Harpy helm (interesting helmet.. i bought in in dark red... it looks great with Shredder's torso and legs from tmnt set 79101)
Jester hat (available in different colors and some plumes are bought separately so that you can create more variety of colors and combinations) 33cents
Jester plumes (to complete the hat) 33 cents
Wizard hat (love it!) $1.50
Android armor $1.50
German 38 (pistol... great with Marvel's Red Skull minifigure) 1.00
Suppressed sniper (fits minifig well... even in prone position) 66 cents
Austrian bull pup (great priced gun to be used in a variety of genres) 33 cents
Adaptive Warrior Rifle (also so very versatile in different genres) 49 cents
Fire Breather - very cool looking flamethrower.. although it doesn't have to be used as a flame thrower and only 34 cents

Items that I would really like to buy in the future:
Crutches 1.00
Training Dummy 85 cents
arrow half (to appear as though stuck in shield, wall or ground) 33cents
crossbow 1.33
Battle horn 84 cents
City Watch armor with City watch helmet 75 cents and 1.50
Pig snout Bacinet (helmet) 1.50

Favorite items:
Ogre armor http://www.brickwarriors.com/ogre-armor/
Steampunk rifle
Bear trap
Jester hat
wizard hat
training dummy
battle horn
crutches

I think that the plastic used is high quality and the colors are very close to LEGO colors. Harpy Helm in Dark Red is very close to dark red of tmnt Shredders torso from set 79101. Some items appeared a little less shiny than some LEGO items but I didn't have a problem with that and its slight.

Also as vynsane pointed out some items (only 1 or 2 from my experience) were a little tighter than they should have been which could cause scratching to LEGO parts. My advice if that worries you (and if you get one that it tight... its not all of them)... for armor buy a few plain torso's so that torso detail isn't worn or scratched. The torso will be cover by armor anyway. Brickwarrior parts are much more compatible than Kreo parts. I still have a kreo transformer helmet stuck tightly onto a LEGO head that I can't remove. I haven't had that problem with brickwarriors products.

Some items don't go together. I bought the Android armor to combine with the Harpy Helm. The back of the Harpy helm sticks out and the back of the Android armor sticks up and gets in the way. At first I was disappointed but then I realized that LEGO items are the same. Even with LEGO there are some accessories that simply won't fit together. So before you buy x20 of a particular helmet and x20 of a particular armor to use for an army you may want to look closely to ensure that they will fit together. Brickwarriors has several photos of each item be "worn" or used in various combinations on their site which really helps to ensure that they go together.
