can .lxf files convert into PDF?

Post by ENeuman600 » Thu Dec 05, 2013 3:47 am

I wonder how can convert from .lxf files into PDF? by using LDD or should use LDraw better than LDD? Because I have plan of thousand of instruction and put up for sale over Ebay? to earn our income.

What is best price on sale however, I seen price between $5 to $30 each custom building. Other thing is download safe to given seller by using their email?

I would like to hear your feedback on this.

I use Mike's LEGO CAD, http://www.lm-software.com/mlcad/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, to output instructions and parts lists.
It uses LDraw as its back-end for the parts files. You can print to any printer, including a PDF-file device.

I don't have much experience with LDD, although I've heard its gotten much better in the time when I tried it out. I'm also not sure if there is a way to convert .lxf files into the LDraw format that MLCAD would use. This discussion mirrors my experience when I tried such things: http://bricks.stackexchange.com/questio ... n-lxf-file" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

As for price, that will be set by what the market will bear. If you designs are top-notch and in demand, you'll be able to ask a higher price.

I've never tried to sell our instructions (We use MLCAD as a way to document builds and share them with friends/family across the country). You might consider emailing a PDF, but setting a 'print password' so that only those that have paid will be able to print them out. You might also consider buying one from one of the more popular builders on rebrickable.com, to see how they do it.

Good luck in your search!

I think the .lxf files output from LDD are just text files yes ? I tried opening one somewhere awhile back with NOTEPAD & it opened fine, inside the file was alot of XML for the parts & how to connect them

so, take the .lxf file, open up word (assuming you have word installed), cut/paste the entire .lxf file into the word document, fiddle with the fonts, paging, headers etc and then print to PDF file. newer versions of word can(?) print to pdf file, older versions need to get updates from MS, or go the the http://www.pdfonline.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; website & convert the .doc file to .pdf - hope this makes sense :-D

altho after looking at that .lxf file I'm guessing it would be a bit challenging for most people to read the XML and figure out how to build the lego model. the lego bricks have particular names etc & how to connect is based on XML nesting, so why would you want to physically print this XML on paper ? I'd think it would be more useful to either sell the .lxf file electronically or convert it to some human readable instructions & print those instead, maybe using what the previous poster mentioned

There is a "generate build instructions" menu option that will create HTML instructions. There must be a way to then convert the pages it generates into PDF, but I'm not sure how.
ALL HAIL THE BLACTRON EMPIRE!
