Potential deal if we get the votes

Post by ilovelacus » Thu Oct 03, 2013 2:07 pm

Hey guys

My friends told me this site where you can vote on things and potentially get discount on this.
Let's gather the votes (need 198 more votes) and see if this could happen!

https://www.massdrop.com/vote/lego-sydney-opera-house :-D

You either work for massdrop or you are paid to promote it.

I trade with "ilovelacus" in the town before, and I don't think he was doing that.

BTW, "ilovelacus" you haven't left me a feedback at http://www.toysnbricks.com/forums/viewt ... f=33&t=837" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , which is Official Toys N Bricks' Straight Shooters List

So, how would massdrop work? How many potential shoppers we need to gather? I assume there would be one person to make a large quantity order, and this person would be responsibility for making the payment, right!? What happen if some back out?

hey legohunter thanks for your support for saying the truth I am not working for the website!
Sorry I am not familiar with the trade system ha, but I just gave you feedback there. :)

I think how the website works is you can vote for deals or post your own deals, then when the item has like 200 votes, then the website team will talk to the manufacturer of the item and see if they can give a group buy discount. The reason I posted it here is for everyone to discuss about this and see if we can do this together.

so what do you think ?

lol rude? Settle down bro. You are trying to get people scammed with a scummy site that is massdrop.

I'm sorry you or so sensitive, but I'd rather people not get suckered in.

Should carefully study this site before submitting personal info, even an email account.

@stevebuscemi, do you have any links to support your accusation? [and thanks, admins, for cutting the rude comment out.]

I did a quick search, and the site is quite new. Very little feedback, but no real criticisms yet.
The WHOIS information lists a residential address as the site owner, which scammers tend not to do [at least, they don't use their own address].

That said, I doubt TLG will bargain much with 120 lego fans to drop the price of the sydney opera house. They no longer let amazon/walmart/target discount this item, and the large retailers will cry foul if TLG offers a discount through a group-buy site.

caveat emptor

Is this a new rule? I bought bought the Grand Emporium and Fire Brigade from TRU in the past at 20% off.
Who is General Failure and why is he reading my hard disk?

Yes. New as of Aug/Sep 2013. (I think Sep 1, but not sure).

Fortunately I got the architecture studio from bn.com in August (when it was on their website) which allowed their coupons to apply for discount. Now its sold out online and only available in stores but I am hoping that coupons will still be applicable for discount because I want more sets!

The concept of group buying is already out there but it happens (or has to happen) outside of the retail scene, and occurs at the warehouse / wholesale distribution end. Typically involves distribution centres that are willing to provide incentive discount programs for vendors willing to buy more. Vendors may be stretched in the product amount they want to carry so to get discounts they seek out other "private buyers" to join in. Eg no discount on buying a 5 exclusive sets but if you can buy 50 then you can get 20% for example. Don't know what kind of connections Massdrop has but this is just one example scenario where Massdrop may have connections to distribution centres and you don't deal directly with TLG.

thanks everyone for your useful analysis instead of some impolite rude comments!

So I looked at their FAQ and terms again. The process is right now the item is in the voting stage.
Once it gets enough votes (like 200 e.g. for now) then it will get reviewed and I believe their negotiation team will talk to LEGO ( or maybe toy stores/retailers? ) and see if there is some deal available. Then the item will be opened for public to either press "join now" or "commit to join" (see the FAQ page below to see the differences).

At this point, nobody is charged, and you will be able to see the amount of discount. If not enough people are joined, then the deal will be cancelled and nobody will be charged. So I do not think it is for sure a "scam" site as somebody is saying and accusing people.

So what do you guys think about this?

This is their FAQ page.
http://help.massdrop.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They have a Facebook page as well

I think this looks really cool. They're taking the concept of group buys to a new level. When I was active on an auto forum, people would band together to group buy car parts like this. In that case someone (like a forum admin) has to approach the seller/manufacturer/supplier and talk them into agreeing to the discount etc. But here they have turned that part of it into a service.

I signed up. I'm down to support some Lego buys, especially for exclusives. I doubt Lego would agree to it, because they seem to be tightening up recently and generally tend to favor their own retail channels. But it's worth a shot.

Virtual type Costco? What is in it for massdrop? What's their cut or fee for the service?

Guys, I need your opinions/suggestion?
I'm planning to get a Horizon Express for myself as a Christmas present for myself this year :-D
However since TLG does not allow TRU to offer discount now... you think it's good idea to get it now since this month it has double VIP + free shipping?
OR should I wait bit longer?
If the set offer 20% off I'm planning to get 2
thx

I was told by an employee of the Lego Company that it applies to Lego brand retail. He did not say other retailers, and this is the first I have heard that.
