Rear Window (1954)
"That's a secret, private Lego world you're looking into out there."
I was almost finished with this vignette and was excited to enter it into this month's contest . . . and then someone else entered a Rear Window vignette. Though that person very graciously gave me permission to enter mine also (thank you!), I really felt like the spirit of the contest is all about variety; doubling up on movie choices didn't seem quite as fun. So I finished up another vignette I was happy with and entered that instead. And now, here is my idea for Rear Window.
My favorite part of 16x16 vignettes is figuring out how to force depth where it's not actually possible. Rear Window was a great challenge, to find a way to make the view through the window look correct. The solution I settled on was to build Jeff's apartment in minifigure scale, and everything out the window is microbuild scale.

Incidentally, I'm finding that making a vignette of a movie scene reveals things about the movie that I would never have noticed otherwise. For example, in Rear Window it's actually quite difficult to get a spatial sense of the layout of Jeff's apartment. And you almost never see what the floor looks like! It all adds to the fun, and helps me enjoy the movie from a different perspective.
