7965 Millennium Falcon
I have spotted what was thought to be sold out and discontinued, the 7965 Millennium Falcon, at two Walmarts in the past two days. Price was $139.

Why in the world would you think 7965 was discontinued?marcusloignon wrote:I have spotted what was thought to be sold out and discontinued, the 7965 Millennium Falcon, at two Walmarts in the past two days. Price was $139.
Re: 7965 Millennium Falcon
The Falcon 7965 has another year to go.

Does that mean there is still a chance to find it on clearance later on? I hope so. I'd love to pick one up to open. I have a sealed one in my closet that I've been dying to build....

That seems a little backwards. If you are dying to build it why not go ahead and enjoy the build and look for another at a good price in the future to stick in the closet?Galahad2309 wrote:Does that mean there is still a chance to find it on clearance later on? He may never find that replacement at a good price and you would have lost the resale/investment value of the MISB one. If you hold an MISB long enough for resale, you can use the net increase in funds to buy an open/used set at reasonable cost (if one is not fussy about having to build from mint bricks - there are many one time builders and pieces in a used set with that history will still be relatively new). Sometimes I will even buy that used set first then sell the MISB one after acquiring it if urges to build it can not be deferred.

Re: 7965 Millennium Falcon
There was recently a lot of talk on this board about 7965 being discountinued. I know that immediately before Christmas I was looking everywhere for one and everywhere was sold out, perhaps because the average price was around $120.

Re: 7965 Millennium Falcon
I have a bunch of other stuff my kids want to build so building the falcon is not high on the priority list to build. But I still really want to build it.

Re: 7965 Millennium Falcon
There were lots of reasons to believe the Falcon was gone.Edmond Dantes wrote:Why in the world would you think 7965 was discontinued?marcusloignon wrote:I have spotted what was thought to be sold out and discontinued, the 7965 Millennium Falcon, at two Walmarts in the past two days. Price was $139.
1.)First of all the set came out in 2011 and it is now 2013. (2 year cycle) All but one 2011 star wars set have been discontinued and are no longer available. I have seen some sets run longer than the typical 2 year cycle and some shorter. Mace Windu's Jedi Starfighter 7868 was discontinued last year after only one year run. The Death Star has been running since 2008. (Over 4 years and counting)
2.)Secondly several retailers reduced the price (like they do right before a clearance) and it sold out just about everywhere! Online and brick and mortar.
3.) Third, members posting on this site said they were finding them clearance priced at Walmart with the other clearance sets the day after Christmas. Not very common to clearance a set just to bring it back in a month.
I think that is pretty good evidence to support my theory, even if my theory was incorrect.

Sorry, I forget some people don't follow these two threads at Brickset:

Trust me, if 7965 had been retiring, we would have known about it.
It came out in July 2011 and has never been sold out at S@H. It MIGHT have been back-ordered, but that means nothing other than the Christmas rush. It won't retire until this fall at the earliest.

Thanks for the links....I will catch up on my reading.Edmond Dantes wrote:Sorry, I forget some people don't follow these two threads at Brickset:

Re: 7965 Millennium Falcon
This one means nothing. I've seen Wal Mart mark down everything in the LEGO aisle to 30-50% off MSRP, only to restock all of the items a few weeks later at MSRP again. This most likely has to do with year end tax implications.marcusloignon wrote: 3.) Speaking of this set specifically, I saw it at clearance prices at some Wal Marts over a year ago, but that certainly wasn't universal.
Re: 7965 Millennium Falcon
One of my local Walmarts just restocked this set at $139.
Re: 7965 Millennium Falcon
Good info thankyou. And I totally agree, since this have not hit the two year mark yet.Edmond Dantes wrote:Sorry, I forget some people don't follow these two threads at Brickset:
