At the Bellevue, WA store today I received one silver trooper with a set and when I asked if I could buy them separately, they hesitated and said it would be pretty limited. I asked about two more, and they said yes since my two daughters were with me. Those were $2.99 each.slacker wrote:Does anybody know if they will sell them separately?

I tried to buy one at one of the TRU's here and they told me it was just a promo item and it wouldn't ring up seperate. I asked her to try to ring one up and she refused. Caught in a LIE!!!!!
Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?
Re: [USA] TRU Free Minifigure Aug. 6-29
Toys R Us employees are all full of it. It is a known fact. They always give out bad info unless you catch them in a lie.

IDK man, they're just people like you - perhaps she wasn't sure if she was allowed to ring it up separately. Perhaps someone already HAD done so (like the story you quoted) and they got reprimanded for it. There's no one in any retail establishment that makes it a point to outright lie to you - they're not paid enough to care one way or the other! The only thing they care about is not getting in trouble for doing something they're not supposed to do in order to keep their job.anakinisvader wrote:I tried to buy one at one of the TRU's here and they told me it was just a promo item and it wouldn't ring up seperate. We got ours on Saturday at the Saint Matthews Toys R Us in Louisville. They would not let me buy them seperate. I plan on trying to return the lego sets that I had to buy at my store in Illinois, that didn't even get any of the chromies. Good thing we were on vacation. :D

A lie is a lie in my opinion, telling a lie to a customer is worse in my opinion then telling them no and Explaining why you can not do it. If you are not allowed to ring these up make a statement like "I'm sorry sir, but this is a promotional item that we are giving away for free. We only have a limited supply and it would not be fair of us to sell them as that would mean we'll have to disappoint people that come in to take advantage of our deal later this week. If someone would have come in yesterday and bought them all we would not have been able to give you one either."vynsane wrote:IDK man, they're just people like you - perhaps she wasn't sure if she was allowed to ring it up separately. I agree with you on principle, I don't think there's anyone out there aside from sociopaths who disagree that lying is bad (m'kay?) - but:toystest wrote:A lie is a lie in my opinion, telling a lie to a customer is worse in my opinion then telling them no and Explaining why you can not do it. A: have you ever had a cashier say that many words to you consecutively? (Before anyone comes down on me for 'looking down upon the retail worker' I worked at Tower Records for more years than I even want to think about, and worked the stock room at both Pottery Barn and Barnes and Noble, so I put enough time in at retail hell in order to disparage the work ethic therein - mine included)
and
B: do you truly believe they are lying out of malice?
Either way, the cashier that anakinisvader is talking about DID say it was a promo item and wouldn't ring up separately. While it may be false that it wouldn't ring up separately, perhaps the cashier didn't even know it WOULD ring up at all - so it's not a lie, it's a misinformed cashier (of which there are many).

Eeeh a promo item should probably remain a promo item, lest someone come in and buy them all out.
I deal with people all the time asking questions about what they can and can't do, etc., (I work a service desk) and the temptation to blow people off blatantly is huge. There's no real way to report someone if you're the customer because you don't know what's right and wrong and the service clerk isn't going to rat themselves out. I don't believe that I have ever lied to someone before, but I have definitely given out answers that I later found out were wrong but had believed at the time to be true.
Chances are the cashier really didn't know and decided to play it safe and not sell you the promotional items individually.

At some stores they were available for sale. After the promo, they will be again.
Probably most employees have no clue about that and only know what their managers tell them---it's a promo item.
Most are worker drones....don't hate them, hate the system.
If you want more, purchase more battlepack sets...or wait until Aug 30.

Just to add insult to injury for anyone who was denied buying them outright - I checked out my TRU earlier today, asked if they were available for individual purchase, and was directed to the checkout in the videogame section. When I got there, I asked the guy behind the counter the same question, and he said "Yeah, I think they ring up individually..." and then HE wondered if they would ring up BOGO - and they did! Got two Chrometroopers today for $3.27! I gotta go back tomorrow...
Re: [USA] TRU Free Minifigure Aug. 6-29
I went last week asking them about the new mini figures and the lady had no idea what I was talking about even after the fact that I showed it to her. First she said that the chrome troopers were only available with a SW purchase. Later, she came back with a the TS3 alien ship and one chrome trooper. I told her if I could buy it and she rang it up. So it all depends on the person behind the counter. But getting the BOGO deal is awesome. I'm just happy I got one. I'll probably go back after the 29th.
Re: [USA] TRU Free Minifigure Aug. 6-29
How you get it for BOGO? 2 Chrometroopers for the price of one is a deal! :Pvynsane wrote:Just to add insult to injury for anyone who was denied buying them outright - I checked out my TRU earlier today, asked if they were available for individual purchase, and was directed to the checkout in the videogame section. +1 on the BOGO. I pick up a handfull today.
Re: [USA] TRU Free Minifigure Aug. 6-29
It seems the programmers employed by TRU to write their POS logic aren't all that great... or the bean-counters just didn't think this one through. The promo is one free Chrometrooper with the purchase of any Star Wars LEGO purchase. As the Chrometrooper itself counts as a Star Wars Lego purchase, the next one rung up automatically is priced to $0.00. Either they should have stipulated a price-cap of $4 or something (there's not one SW LEGO product available under $10 I believe, so they could've just capped it at $9.00) or they should've made sure the chromy couldn't ring up individually.brickz wrote:How you get it for BOGO? 2 Chrometroopers for the price of one is a deal! :P
Either way, I'm a happy camper.
Re: [USA] TRU Free Minifigure Aug. 6-29
Wow that makes perfect sense. I feel ripped off the first time. when I only got one.
I guess I made up by getting a hand full. :D

Re: [USA] TRU Free Minifigure Aug. 6-29
Yeah, I went back and got 6 more, and every other one rang up at $0.00 in the same sale - it wasn't even capped at 1 promo per sale. Usually the POS will only let one promo happen per receipt, to ostensibly make sure it's one per customer... not this time!
