Heroica games, any good?

Post by hatcher » Sat Aug 04, 2012 8:54 am

Thinking about getting these for my neice and nephew as they are in to D&D.

Are the games any good as a game, or are they just parts fodder? Would love to hear what people who've played them actually think.

Thanks
Who is General Failure and why is he reading my hard disk?

The games are extremely popular with my 8 year old. They are very much like D&D, but move much faster ... typically 20 mins per game. The ability to play as teams, or monsters-vs-heroes, helps to keep them interesting.

If your niece and nephew are already playing D&D, the only question I would have is if they'd consider Heroica too simple. I have a 6-year old and this is just his speed, as a very simple version of a dungeon crawl/rpg. He loves Heroica (and is a huge Skylanders fan, if that is helpful - I think they appeal to a similar audience) and spends a lot of time creating his own castle (etc.) layout.

p.s. if you want to try-before-you-buy, there is an on-line version of the Fortaan game, that follows the physical game quite closely: http://heroica.lego.com/en-us/funzone/default.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
