I was under the impression that Hobbit theme would be released the 12th, marvel/dc 13th, star wars the 14th and ninjago the 15th but we have seen rancor pics already on the 12th so who knows.

Given the amount of pieces, 5 minifigs (including Rancor and skeleton), and new molds for the Rancor's fingers, hands, right arm, left arm, jaw, AND body I'd say this set will sell for $80. With the way lego has been running things, i'd be surprised to see a price as low as 60.

This thing is awesome, but I'm scared with the price. With Jabba's Palace at $120, this will be ridiculous too. It really should be $40-$50, but I know I'll be shocked with the MSRP. I have to get good deals on these sets.

Here are some more awesome pictures of this set:
P.S. Enjoy!
P.P.S. It looks as if you will be able to place the Gamorrean Guard's HEAD, if not more, into the Rancor's mouth.

LEGO Star Wars Rancor Monster

More pictures for the LEGO Star Wars Rancor Pit 2013 set are now available from FBTB. It looks like the Rancor Monster can indeed fit one minifigure!

With the jaw fully opened and at an angle looking up at him, he looks like the most menacing Rancor ever. Still cute at other angles. The "Galactic Heroes" Rancor has nothing on this.

If you look closely at some of the pictures on FBTB's Flickr stream, you'll notice that this set comes with the following accessories: a small brown bucket with a tan handle, two silver keys, a short silver chain, a brown pitchfork/rake like tool, and a brown box with a LEGO turkey leg inside. I also noticed that on the top of the set there is a red and gray bar. I can tell that when the gate is in it's raised position, this mechanism will prevent the gate from falling. On the other hand, if you want to crush the Rancor while it's walking underneath the gate, you'd simply pull the lever outward, the gate would lower, and voilà! You have yourself a dead Rancor, a saved Luke Skywalker, and a very angry Jabba the Hutt!! ;-)

That would be nice but I'm guessing it's more likely that the tower disconnects and sits next to the pit and main room when they are stacked together making them both the same height.

Though I like another smaller set that stacks underneath the tower idea better. That droid interrogation chamber would be sweet. I don't think we have ever gotten the Ev9D9 droid (i had to look up his name and i consider myself a pretty knowledgeable starwars nerd).

The Max Rebo room wouldn't be located underneath it doesn't seem.
They made a EV9D9 in set 4480... also i said a max rebo green room[/url] and it was a joke...

There doesn't seem to be much to play with in this set. I just hope it's priced mid-range.

I can easily tell that the four pyramid-shaped bricks at the top of the pit are meant to fit into the four holes on the bottom of Jabba's Palace.
Yes, no doubt the four pyramid-shaped bricks are used to secure the Jabba Palace. But now, I am concerning if the pit gate could be lift-up when Jabba Palace is on top of it?
In response to my concern on the pit gate, the Jabba Palce definitely blocked the gate. It was disappointed that TLG knew this problem but did not take care of it during the production phase.

If the hinge is swiveled all the way open you can open the gate even with the palace and tower attached. It's not a perfect solution but it seems fine if you are a kid using your imagination.

For display I leave the gate closed...and the hinge at an angle so it looks like it is supporting the tower. I was disappointed that the box shows the tower detached and sitting next to the pit. The way I have it looks better imho.

This may be a solution when playing around with it. However, it looked awkward for display purpose.

You could built some rocks pieces or a little cave for Rancor below the Tower to keep it at the same ground level as the Palace. I am planning to use the layout from PoP 7572 and its pieces to support up the Tower. Unfortunately, this will be going to block the hinge opening of the gate.
