My store is 12 miles out and I got the email for $49 minimum for free shipping. Nothing worth picking up, why is everyone begging for one?

You might not feel there's anything worth picking up, but it doesn't mean everyone feels the same. Plus, not everyone lives in a close enough proximity to a LEGO store, so free shipping from S@H is a welcome opportunity.

The closest Lego store to me is 736km (457 miles) and across the US/Canada border, or 1331km (827 miles) If i stay in my country. I've only been able to get to an actual LEGO store 3 times, so Free shipping is always appreciated.

Alas, no VIP email whatsoever for me.

No VIP mail yet and the nearest one is about 90 minutes drive. I did a quick "shopping" online after logging in and threw in a Death Star, no free shipping at all. :/

I did not receive a VIP newsletter. I have received them in the past but so far nothing. I have not bought anything from S@H since May but between TC14 and Hulk I bought a few hundred dollars worth.

I submitted an email maybe I will get lucky.

Is it a promo code or just something tied to your account?

I rec'd the VIP email, but no free shipping. Ugh! I'm 300 miles from a Lego store.

I sent an email to customer service, the response: "The free shipping for VIP memberships is a test that is going on right now. It was only offered to a small amount of VIP members. The promotion code for the free shipping would be received in an email if you are one of the selected."

I want to be a test subject.

lol I was thinking the same thing. Most major online retailers offer free shipping with a certain purchase amount threshold on a normal basis, so you'd think LEGO would as well. And with LEGO brand stores not nearly as widespread compared to TRU, Walmart, etc., you'd also think that free shipping is something they would want to offer in order to increase their reach to customers.

But alas, we can only speculate and wait patiently for the next free shipping 'promo'.

I didn't get the free shipping. One, I don't use it. Two I have plenty of lego store nearby. Three, if the lego store doesn't have it, they will order it and give me free shipping.

The bad news is that I got an email saying some of my lego points will expire. I thought the points were good until you stop buying?

And I thought they were good for 24 months? I'm pretty sure it says that somewhere in the small print.

Free shipping wasn't mentioned in my last VIP e-mail (came yesterday), but I just checked by throwing something into my "bag" and I do have free shipping. Very bizzare.

^ Weird. I tried a few large-ticket items and didn't get any free shipping.

I emailed lego customer service regarding this issue. Here is their reply.

Thanks for getting in touch with us about our LEGO® VIP program!

I certainly understand your confusion regarding the information you just saw on the toysnbricks.com U.S. forum. I am more than happy to explain to you the details of this recent VIP newsletter!

Our VIP team is currently in the process of planning and testing new LEGO VIP program membership benefits for 2013. At the moment, they have selected a very small portion of VIP members to receive free shipping and handling on LEGO Shop at Home orders over a certain dollar amount from July 1st through September 30th. The selection process was random and only approximately 20% of registered VIP members were chosen.

Unfortunately, you were not selected to take part in this particular VIP pilot. We are so sorry, as we know that this is very disappointing to hear. While this particular free shipping and handling promotion was not offered to you, please rest assured that you will still continue to receive VIP emails, offers and other special promotions throughout the rest of the year. We certainly value your business and appreciate your loyalty as a member of our VIP program!

They probably should have mentioned this to those that received the free shipping. Oh well, I would have loved free shipping for when the S@H has the new star wars sets listed.

Thank you, h-7, for inquiring and posting your response (though I removed the first sentence in your post, since it was not only unnecessarily inflammatory but also patently inaccurate in light of the response you received).

Seems to me a straightforward random marketing test.

I'm glad to see they are considering free shipping for purchases over $x, I have suggested that when filling out online surveys for S@H purchases, so perhaps they are listening to consumers!

Thanks for the update.

@Atmail It is nice to know a company that actually reads feedback from customers and tries to improve. I bet most companies don't have time to read comments and just throw them in the trash.

Sorry for the tacky intro... It was not fair or appropriate. I was just a bit disappointed at the fact they selectively choose people without so much as informing them it was a beta test. That alone prompted the confusion throughout this whole thread. Some people posting 75.00 some saying 49.00 and some not even receiving a newsletter. Had the select few been informed they were involved in a beta test that would have cleared so much up very quickly.

I have no lego stores close to me. The closest is a few hundred miles. So I do take advantage of free shipping whenever available and I have been planning making a purchase. Now my purchase must wait as the shipping charges add up quickly.
