Re: 20% OFF MSRP certain sets at Lego Store Ontario Mills, C
I doubt they go to the trouble to move damaged boxes from store to store. Chatting with the manager at our store led me to believe there were quite a few damaged boxes and I know they didn't sell them but put them in Grab Bags instead. It's possible some stores just go straight from damaged box to grab bag...?

^ I've been wondering that myself. Since LEGO Stores are few and far between, I wonder what the practicality is of centralizing damaged sets to just one store. Space maybe? Is this store significantly larger than neighboring stores that they can create an actual 'sale' section so as to not take up valuable space in the other stores?

I certainly wouldn't mind having an outlet LEGO store. Only sale items there. No new, undamaged sets. :D

The reason why is because this is supposed to be one of the "outlet stores" since it's right in the Ontario Mills outlet center. Even at the sign it said Lego Factory.unclephn wrote:^ I've been wondering that myself. In this store, the way the store space is divided, gives a distinct feeling of a "back room." There is a "pick your brick" wall separated the front and the back. This "back room" contains play area but converted into sale area when they have inventory to unload.
That's the only difference between this and other stores that I've been too. It is not any larger than any other stores in Greater L.A. In fact it is smaller than both Glendale Galleria and Downtown Disney store.
I agree with the other poster that the fact that Ontario Mills is an outlet mall probably led to this concentration of sale items.

Hey! There was no HP Diagon Alley when I went there on Saturday 6/23.kwkw wrote:Just got back from there picked up a HP Diagon Alley (box was nearly perfect yet still 20% off) and a Tower bridge (box has seen better days). Lots of stuff still on 20% clearance. Tons of SW Republic Frigates, Tons of Red Cargo Train, 2 super star destroyers, 1 tower bridge left (box looked like it's been through a hurricane lol), tons of Rubie houses, lots Lotr Mines of Moria, a few Winter village post offices, 3 HP big Hogwarts, 4 HP Diagon alley, technic super car (the big red one retails $120) and 3 lego city mine. So go now before all the good stuff is gone. Btw they have a $5 off a $35 purchase coupon if you ask for it from a store employee

All the LEGO stores send their damaged boxes back to the warehouse. Then when there is enough, the warehouse sends those sets (including damaged returns from other retailers & stuff damaged at the warehouse) to one of the LEGO outlet stores to be sold.Legobrandon wrote:One question though, why do the damaged sets go to this specific location?
Re: 20% OFF MSRP certain sets at Lego Store Ontario Mills, C
Correct. Part of the deal for being an "outlet" store, the store must always have sale items. So the damaged stuff goes to this store. I think there's also one more outlet store in the US, and I want to say it's in Colorado.crazybirdman wrote:All the LEGO stores send their damaged boxes back to the warehouse. There's a reason all of those Green Grocers were on clearance a few years ago...not many people wanted it. :( Of course hindsight would have said to pick up all the Green Grocers and every Batcave and Arkham Asylym sold at discount stores. Hahaha...man, that would have been awesome.

Too bad Ontario is no where near Anaheim. I would love to visit the outlet store the next time I go to Disneyland.

It's not that far. And you can always call first to see if they have anything on sale. They don't like it when you ask specifically what's on sale, or ask them to list everything and the prices. But just a"hey, how's the sale section look?' should be okayLegobrandon wrote:Too bad Ontario is no where near Anaheim. I would love to visit the outlet store the next time I go to Disneyland.

When we visit California, we never rent a car or anything. Either a friend takes us to places or we go by tour bus. A taxi ride would be crazy expensive.crazybirdman wrote:It's not that far. You could use public transportation. According to the Metro trip planner, it would only cost $12.65 and take just over 4 hours.
SoCal is well known for its (terrible) public transportation system!

It's not like mass transit is needed to clear the highways (sarcasm). I don't think they can expand the highways more than 5-6 lanes each way. I've searched for mass transit solutions but to no avail. Used to drive 50 miles each way for 1.5 years in LA/Orange County area. Past 7 years has been a 23+ mile drive each way.crazybirdman wrote:You could use public transportation. According to the Metro trip planner, it would only cost $12.65 and take just over 4 hours.

Debating if 20% is worth the drive to Ontario for Diagon Alley. Definitely a really good deal, but if I wait for 10% off plus double VIP points I can just go to the LEGO store a couple miles from my work place.

Checked out the Ontario store today. Didn't see any HP Diagon Alleys or the Tower Bridge.
There was one big Hogwarts castle, plenty of Ninjago Destiny's Bounty, Burj Tower, Robie's House, City (police station, mining, Harbor Marina, LOTR Mines of Moria (pretty bad shape IMO), and other stuff. Also a few of the Red Cargo Trains and those sets didn't seem too badly damaged. Also spotted Batcave, Technic Supercar and the Winter Village Post Office.

On the topic of damaged box sales, Vancouver had a tiny selection of 10% off sets to choose from. Those set(s) include, Robbie House, City Mine, Technic Car, and a Ninjago Car. But I saw the Robbie House in person for the firs time and I've got to say, it's impressive. Too bad the price tag is so high.
