Kmart. What the heck?

Post by starfailure » Wed Jun 27, 2012 6:50 am

I've only been doing the LEGO thing for a few months, but today I went on kmart.com and noticed that they jacked up prices on several sets by 10% or so. I'd never seen them do this before.

Just a couple examples on the first page:
Hogwarts 54.99, V-Wing 21.99, Forbidden Forest 13.49, Alien Conquest sets, City vehicles up to 21.99

Many of these are sets that were on clearance last month. Anyone know what's going on?

Good observation. The raised prices are pretty disappointing; maybe they are trying to expedite their demise lol. If they are having trouble staying in business with the current prices, I have difficulty understanding why raising their prices (without changing anything else) would help matters. Oh well, hopefully they'll still have sales here and there while they're still around.

They used to do that all the time, then when they started closing stores they put their prices at MSRP. I guess they think they're doing well enough to jack the prices up. Too bad :(

It is a new trend popping up for almost every retailer. Soon, S@H will be the only safe place to buy LEGO at MSRP. Maybe Amazon too. :(

I was thinking about the same thing when I went to TRU and target lastnight. Could it be possible that TLG is raising their prices? Only a couple of years ago SW battle packs were only $9.99.

I went to Kmart today and found that most of the sets were 10% above MSRP when I used the in store scanner, but the shelf stickers all showed MSRP. :???:

Here in Canada, if the price on the computer does not match the price on the shelf, you either get the item for free (if under $10) or $10 off. ;-) If only that rule applied to American stores.
