Definitely YMMV. Stopped by a local and nothing to be had. Always a dice roll.

Maybe this is old news, but I didn't notice it my last few browses at the Walmart website: a bundle of BP and Cannibal escape for the price of just BP:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/LEGO-Pirates- ... l/20606042" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You could look at it in one sense as 30% off BP, which isn't bad. None of the other bundles look great to me but there are some 3-in-1 star wars (which is not a theme that interests me except for parts at clearance).

This suggests to me that instore clearance on BP will hit this month.

Local Walmart had Series 5 minifigs hidden away in a clearance section that wasn't near the toys. 3 boxes but all at 2.99. I passed. No sixes or sevens. They had some (4 different) PotC and HP (1) on clearance as well. Didn't note which pieces as PoTC is one of the themes I'm trying not to get interested in and the discounts didn't look that large. The HP was the Malfoy/Harry/Dobby miniset with the post that knocks off the minifig at the bottom of the steps...

The BP bundle has been up on Walmart.com for at least a month, I believe.

With LotR sets due out June 1st and additional summer releases on the way, I'm guessing there will be a need to clear off some shelf space soon at several locations.

I'm a bit new to this though. Can someone shed some light on when we typically see clearance sales pick up at retail locations? I know post Christmas is a big one, but I assume there are others.

Mid to late May is usually a time full of deals.

This is specific to Walmart or across the Lego retailers? Assume this is across the retailers... Do flagship (call it over the $100 sets) sets typically go on sale? I was surprised about the Star Wars UCS sets going on sale. It looks like I'm going to dodge that bullet, since I checked them out today and the UCS SSD and R2-D2 don't really get me excited.

Do the large Technic sets go on sale? $5 off a mini crane is nice, but 20% off the Logging Truck or something like that is more likely to get me to sit up and notice.

It depends from year to year. I think it was in 2009 or 2010, the Lego May sale was insane and last year it was just so-so. Sometimes it is the smaller sets, sometimes it is on the larger sets. I don't know that there is any rhyme or reason to it. (Dec 2010, the Crane Trucks were 50% off ($75) in large quantities at most every Lego store, yet this last Xmas, the Technic sales were completely ho-hum)

With the other retailers, it just really depends on a number of factors like when they get their Summer wave sets in, the size of the toy department, the floor sets for the rest of the toy department, etc... WM and Target usually happen sooner, some local retailers happen later. (One of our local retailers here in AZ just reset about 3 weeks ago with the Winter sets, so it is highly unlikely they are going to reset in 3 or 4 weeks again with the summer sets)

Deals will be there with about the usual frequency that you see in Dec and May...Some 20-30%, probably some 50% here and there. Don't hold your breath for 75% or 90%, those sales really don't exist any more.

It is all tied to their 'resets.' Generally there is one right after the Holidays. Another happens in May, another in mid August. So expect to see more widespread clearance in the next 2-3 weeks. I predict it will be PotC, Alien Conquest, the City Harbor sets, any leftover HP... lots of the same sets that were discounted at some Wal Marts in January will be discounted at all Wal Marts this month. However, the price cuts may not be as deep.

I would bet money on this. The HP aren't being added onto (which I think is a shame, but that's my 2 cents,) Alien Conquest is going too (Another shame!) and since they just released a new City line up, the old ones have to be cleared out.

My wife was at one of our three local Wal Marts last night, and the toy aisle was ripped apart as they start the reset, but no discounts yet. Should be any day though... although with Wal Mart clearance sometimes the discount it only $.02, sometimes it's 50%. It all depends on the item, the day, and the store. Crossing my fingers for a nice deal on Whitecap Bay. Still want that one from the PotC line. Some deals on Alien Conquest would be nice too. Got into that theme late, and some of the sets are only so-so, but if I find a great deal I'll pick them up. Picked up the big set in the Wal Mart January clearance for 50% off, so I'm hoping for the same on the Jet Copter.

On a different note. My local Wal Mart said they have no plans to reset anything untill August. Definitely YMWV.

It's really frustrating because I know of 2 Walmarts in MA that have a Millenium Falcon IN the clearance aisle but priced at 139. I've been watching them for weeks and now each one has had the side opened up. Explanation is they are there to make room for other sets and the reason they are full price is there is no discount money towards that item at the moment, based on stock etc. Yet there they sit. Grrrr.

The Wal-Mart in Bayonne, NJ had Hagrid's Hut for $12.00. They had 5 on Monday but none when I went back on Friday...

But you can still get the Thundercats Thunder Tank for $12.00! LOL

Hit my closest store while out running errands. Nothing but a few Kre-o sets so far. Not sure when their last reset was, but they don't even have shelf space designated for the Avengers sets right now. Otherwise that aisle is fully stocked.

EDIT: Some selection at Walmart #2 I hit. A couple of Cars sets (8839 and 8638) at about 25%, and a Scorpion Pyramid at 50%.

Again, a TON of Kre-o Transformers sets. About 20 Optimus Primes for $17 each. Those must have really sold just terribly.

I would love to stumble upon Hagrids Hut or a Hogwarts Castle for deep discounts....and would be extatic to find a millenium falcon

I was at a Walmart last night and they had 2 SW Bounty Hunter Gunships 50% off at $25, 3-4 Geonosian Fighter 50% off at $15.00 and 1 Darth Maul's Sith Infiltrator 50% off at $35. Picked up a Geonosian Fighter and Darth Maul's Sith Infiltrator. Already had the Bounty Hunter Gunship from the previous Kmart clearance. I went to another Walmart today and no SW Lego clearance. Really hit or miss by store. The smaller stores seem to have more turnover/clearance on SW Legos.

After reading this I found an excuse to hit the Walmart near me in Harrison/Kearny, NJ. Didn't see any sales or clearance but I did notice Anakin's and Sebulba's Podracers sitting by itself...no corresponding shelf labels to check the price.. hmm so I grabbed it. Walked over to price check and 45$... sold!! To think, I almost got this at S@H for the May the 4th deal..

Nice!!! I'm going to go check again at my local Walmart tomorrow if I can. Maybe I can find a similar deal.

Has anyone in the Midwest found any deals like this this time around?
