How Many Holiday PAB boxes are you filling/going to fill?

Post by atmail35 » Wed Jan 05, 2011 12:27 pm

We have 4 boxes. I let my 5 year old fill one last week, well she picks the pieces and I stuff it to maximize. We will probably spread the other three out.

How many do you have to fill? Do you tend to do it at once or spread it over Jan - March?

I went to the LEGO store last week (Wednesday) and I filled two boxes. That's all I had, but I got more than 1200 parts out of it.

I've got about 15 boxes, so I am going to spread them out. The selection by me isn't that great. I may hit the store in NJ or Rockefeller center.

On that note, how often do you find your stores rotate the selection? Or can I expect the not so great selection to continue through March? The stuff at the store by me seemed boring. Last year they had trees and dogs, this time around I couldn't find anything really fun.

Trees and Dogs? Wow....I'd suggest that you fill your PaB boxes with square bricks. That's the best use. If you want irregular stuff, get a canister.

Well last year I didn't get the boxes so I didn't fill them w/ trees and dogs. I just think those pieces are more fun than regular squares/rectangles, that's all. ;)

I'm impressed you could fit 1200 pieces in the 2 boxes.

The one in West Nyack has mostly bricks. They had the small wheels last year. I've seen the one in NJ with the xmas tree and green leaves or branch. Not sure what' it's called. I stopped by yesterday in NJ and the only part that caught my eye was the wheels and tires from the creator speeder cars.

Is there any check that you filled the box? Aside from ethics, what stops someone from going home dumping the legos and going back to fill it again?

I'm not sure about the holiday boxes, but Lego encourages you to dump your bricks at home and re-use the cup. There's a small discount when you bring your cup back to fill again (I think it's .25 cents). I hope that helps. You'll have to tell me if something's different about boxes.

When I filled the boxes the sales associate crossed off the UPC code with a marker to indicate that I redeemed it. The store does scan the box and it rings up at $0.

There is a 50 cent discount for reusing the large cup, I'm not sure about the smaller cup.

At the Mall of America store, they punched a hole in the handles of the box, I think they also crossed off the bar code.

Holiday 2011...how many boxes?

Post by atmail35 » Mon Mar 05, 2012 7:15 pm

I'm bumping this up for 2011/12...how many Holiday PAB boxes did you have to fill this season?

I had 3...one was free from attending the VIP shopping event and I had two others from purchases. I've filled 2 of the 3.

I really wish they had more interesting elements.

Does anyone know if you can fill them after 3/31? Last year I misplaced a box and found it the first week or so in April and they allowed me to fill it. I didn't know if they were just being nice about it or if it is an on-going thing that the "deadline" is really not hard and fast.

How do you get a PAB box? I have only heard of the PAB cups.
Just curious what they cost and where i get one.

It was a promotion at the LEGO Brand Store in Nov/Dec. You get a box free when you purchase $75 and can fill it from the PAB wall from Dec 26th through March 31st. It was only given out in-store, not on-line.

They also had a promo last year where they gave you a similar box to fill if you bought a subscription to the MBA kits. This was offered on-line, but you filled it in-store.

I'm actually going tomorrow, or later today I guess, to fill up 4 of them. I don't normally do much in the way of MOCs, but maybe having all these pieces will inspire me.

I usually fill two at a time. Excellent time to do during the monthly build. I've got 3 more boxes. I'll probably go this week to get more windows.

Well I finally filled my last two PAB boxes last weekend but I failed to or didn't spend the time or money to grab any additional sets while at the TLG store for the double points.

PABs filled mostly with all dark and light blue bricks and just a hand full of odds and ends parts...

My wife and I got around 8 boxes. We got two at the VIP event and six just from shopping. We tended to fill them 2 or 3 at a time. It depended what was on the wall.

I had to help one of my friends with his. He ended up with 30+ boxes. Needless to say I think he single handedly keeps our local LEGO store in Sacramento in business.

This last weekend he handed my wife and I nine boxes to fill up at the Santa Clara store since he really didn't want any more elements from our local store.

Since we were down in Santa Clara for the Bricks by the Bay convention we didn't mind helping him out.

If you want to check what's on a given wall you can always go to http://www.brickbuildr.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to see if a local group has cataloged it.

As for the deadline, I'd suggest not trying to push it unless you know the employees very well. Of course they may not mind but it can reflect badly on them if it gets back to their district manager.

One thing I'd suggest is talking with the person that stocks and orders elements for the wall. Chances are they may have elements you do want stored in the back and just haven't had the room to pull stuff out.

Also, I talked with Kevin HInkle. He's the Community Engagement and Communications person at LEGO. He told everyone at the convention that the selection of parts for the PAB wall changes over twice a year. The first time is in January. The second time is some point in the middle of summer. He couldn't remember off the top of his head.

I'd suggest if you have PaB boxes next year to ask if you can ask them to order parts you want. This is something my local LUG does. It's no guarantee we'll get the pieces stocked, but we have noticed some of the elements we've requested showing up on the wall.

And if you don't have a PaB box and are wondering how worth it they are, my friend with the 30+ boxes worked out that they have the same interior space as a large PaB cup. So, roughly a $15 value.

And if you aren't that big on MOCs you might try finding a local LUG. Chances are you'll find a member willing to trade for the boxes.

Will
