LEGO Minecraft Micro World (21102)

Post by Toys N Bricks » Thu Feb 16, 2012 5:22 am

Here's the official LEGO Press Release for the upcoming LEGO Cuusoo Minecraft Micro World set. Price will be $34.95 US / €34.95 EU and will be available exclusively with Mojang retail partner at Jinx.com.

LEGO Micro World Minecraft (21102)

LEGO® Minecraft Micro World details unveiled, available for pre-order

BILLUND, Denmark –The LEGO Group and Mojang have released purchase details and pictures of the LEGO® Minecraft™ Micro World today.

The new set, which was the first to receive 10,000 votes of support from users on the global LEGO CUUSOO idea collection platform, will be available for purchase in summer 2012, but can be pre-ordered from today, exclusively through Mojang retail partner Jinx.com for $34.95 €34.95 at http://www.jinx.com/LEGOMinecraft. The sets will also be sold in select LEGO brand retail stores and the LEGO online shop from summer 2012.

“LEGO Minecraft Micro World is designed to celebrate the essence of the LEGO concept and the Minecraft gaming experience,” said Paal Smith-Meyer, Head of the LEGO New Business Group. Each set features four cubic modular vignettes that can be connected to recreate the Minecraft experience in LEGO bricks. One Minecraft block is represented as one 1x1 LEGO plate with a tile on top - not a perfect cube, but the best approximation at the chosen scale.

LEGO Minecraft Micro World includes two of Minecraft's most iconic characters, Steve and a Creeper, represented as "Micro Mobs." The model presents a standard for building a Minecraft world that can be configured any way the builder likes.

The surface of the modules comes off to reveal mines and hidden resources beneath. Fans can build their own landscapes, stack cubes on top of each other, to build the world of Minecraft as they wish.

The product was developed in collaboration with four LEGO fans: Chris Malloy, Michael Thomas, Kyle Tingey, and Bjarne Panduro Tveskov. These fans developed concepts alongside LEGO designers and helped shape the product into its final version.

Upon seeing the physical model the first time, Mojang founder Markus “Notch” Persson exclaimed: “Woohoo!”

LEGO CUUSOO is a website where LEGO fans can submit their ideas for new LEGO products and collect votes to make their ideas become a reality. They can also vote for other users’ ideas. It can be found at http://lego.cuusoo.com.

Ideas that are supported by 10,000 votes have a chance of being selected to become part of the LEGO Group’s product portfolio. Consumers who have their ideas chosen will earn 1% of the total net sales of the product.

Mojang will donate the 1% proceeds from LEGO CUUSOO to charity.

For more on the co-creation process for LEGO Minecraft Micro World, see the LEGO CUUSOO blog at http://legocuusoo.posterous.com.

I like this set, it looks neat. If Mojang is donating all their profits to charity too, who can knock that?

Mojang is donating 1% to charity.

As I've said elsewhere, if the people who voted voraciously for this don't pony up it could spell certain doom for future LEGO Cuusoo endeavors. I don't see this set being very popular with non-Minecraft fans at that price, and I am dubious of the original rabid response, suspecting that the 'Support' button meant little more to the vast majority than the Facebook 'Like' button (which is, ultimately, a meaningless gesture), disregarding the fact that actual business decisions would be made based directly on their 'support'.

Has the piece count for the set been mentioned anywhere?

My thought. Look at all that Blay. It's like an old Star Wars set with splashes of color.

The pre-order page says 480, which is below the "golden ratio", but that means very little when half the pieces are 1x1...

I think you're wrong on both counts Vynsane.

CUSOO creators get 1% of all the profits that LEGO gets for selling the sets. Minecraft is donating that 1% to charity.

Secondly, have you registered yourself on the CUSOO website? It's a lot more hassle than hitting a Facebook support button. If I didn't want that Western theme set to get passed so badly I would have just said 'forget about it' and not worried.

^ Yep,you're right about the 1% thing, I read that wrong, though the press release could be a little more clear on that fact by saying "Mojang will donate 100% of their share of the profits to charity" - makes it more clear, and sound more impressive at the same time. ;-)

I have registered at LEGO CUUSOO, and supported ideas there. However, it remains to be seen whether or not "supporters" will turn into "buyers" in this case. It's not that much more of a hassle to 'Support' an idea than it is to 'Like' something on FB - basically it's only an additional form field or two asking you what you would buy and how much you would pay. You can put anything in there without even thinking twice about it, and your vote is counted. I'm just skeptical. Make no mistake, I'd be ecstatic to be proven wrong.

Thanks.

BTW, shouldn't this be in the "Licensed Sets" forum as it is one?

Makes me wonder if the support reasons are read by a human?

It's probably read by software that presents a range, the highs and lows, the mean, etc.

I am very much looking forward to this. I don't play Minecraft, didn't know what it was until CUUSOO, but I love this micro build. I've been on a mini/micro kick since building the mini modulars so I'll definitely be getting this. I love the landscaping scene and those little guys are cute.

From what I've read on this, it may turn out more popular among non-Minecraft fans because LEGO fans want it for its parts. Sad, though, since this is the first world-wide CUUSOO project. I really want CUUSOO to succeed, but I think it will take a lot of time and hard work. Hopefully the Western Modular set will be next and have a wider appeal.

Man, I want to get this so bad, but I just overspent on the Kmart sale and there's still so many LotR, Monster Fighters and Ninjago new sets to buy. Ugh, the dilemma of too many LEGO sets to choose from. Hopefully the Minecraft set will be available in physical LEGO stores.

Probably will. I have mentioned this before, but I have a strong feeling this set will not sell very well and end up on clearance on S@H. Just my 2 cents.

I wouldn't even want it for the parts.
I hope it's a smashing success though because that will be good for future CUUSOO.

Does anyone even know what kind of production runs they plan on cuusoo models? I don't imagine them being large enough to go mainstream, so they may sell just fine as long as they do not overproduce.

After getting the actual Minecraft computer game yesterday, I actually want the set now. At first I had no interest at all, but the game grew on me and now I'm hooked.
