[CANADA] ToysRUs sale SPECULATION
Just read a Toronto Star article of how Canadian retailers are trying to imitate Black Friday to keep shoppers here. Part of the article was:
In Canada, Toys r Us stores will be opening earlier, at 8 a.m. on Friday, where permitted. The half price deals will apply to some of the season’s hottest items – including some Lego sets, Cabbage Patch newborns, and Disney’s Rapunzel doll – while supplies last, MacDonald said.
http://www.moneyville.ca/article/109034 ... -here?bn=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Makes one hope that there will be some good sets Half Price. The flyers should be out on Wed or Thursday. Will update as soon as I see a flyer but wanted to put this here as a placeholder as we Canadians aren't able to benefit from the deals south of the border (most of us aren't anyways).
Here's the first one I came across:
LEGO Portal of Atlantis Regular $129.99 will be on for $64.97

From November 25-27, you can get a FREE $15 Savings Card when you make a purchase of $100 or more (excluding hardware, gift cards, etc.) Savings card can be used from December 2-15 when you spend $50 or more.
Probably not the greatest promotion (since you have to spend minimum of $150 to get $15 off), but still better than nothing I guess.
Anyways, focus on the Star Wars Battle Packs and Portal of Atlantis! The Portal of Atlantis set is exactly the same price as the Black Friday price at Target.

Re: [Canada] ToysRUs Black Friday LEGO Sale 2011
So two weeks in a row of 20% off all Pirates of the Carribean? Wonder if they'll actually sell the Black Pearl and Queen Anne's Revenge this time around. In store I think they had it (though I think some stores may actually hide those two sets, freaking stupid) but online those two sets were clearly not on the site. QAR was on but was out of stock and soon removed, Black Pearl was on the site at full price but then later taken down.
I guess if whatever my local TRU is if they have the new 2012 city sets it be nice to get the ambulance, car and caravan, and recycle truck, any 2 for $42. But what on earth is with the "2 for $42"? It's such an odd number and in the past it's been "2 for $40 on sets that are $24.99"? TRU cheapening up even further.

Re: [Canada] ToysRUs Black Friday LEGO Sale 2011
I agree, they are weakening the discounts these days. It used to be $40 for 2 sets on regular priced $26.99 sets (26% off). Then it became $40 for 2 sets on regular priced $24.99 sets (20%). I was hoping Toys R Us would make the sale $35 for 2 after LEGO started lowering the MSRP of $26.99 sets to $24.99. But no. Instead, they're now charging $42 for 2 which is only 16% off...Toronadian wrote: I guess if whatever my local TRU is if they have the new 2012 city sets it be nice to get the ambulance, car and caravan, and recycle truck, any 2 for $42. Those City sets will probably be 25% off next year. For this week, get the 50% off Portal of Atlantis and the Star Wars Battle Packs.

No surprise there...harry99 wrote:As usual - portal of Atlantis was out of stock as soon as the sale went live on the website...

I was over at the Burlington TRU at about 9:30 - it was reasonably busy, but not insane. They had a good supply of battlepacks and the Portal of Atlantis - regarding the latter, they had just a few in the regular spot, but a wire box full of them just up the isle beside the LEGO area. Picked one up, couldn't resist.
LEGO, it's not just a toy, it's an addiction... ;)

Will check the Barrie location later this afternoon - it's a great price for the Portal of Atlantis. Never hurts to have it as it's going to be discontinued. Hopefully they have one left...Hodgeman wrote:No surprise there...harry99 wrote:As usual - portal of Atlantis was out of stock as soon as the sale went live on the website...

Picked up 3 battle packs this morning. The TRU I went to was busy... lots of people in the LEGO area. I saw a new Ninjago set and a couple of mini Creator sets but they were not on sale. Will check out another location in the afternoon!

At 7:30 t his morning Barrie had about 8 that I could see on the shelf. They had boat loads of battle packs. Also had the Advent Calendars on "Clearance" for $29.99 and $39.99 each. They were also selling the leftover bircktober magnets for $2.99. They only had the ninja and the knight.harry99 wrote:Will check the Barrie location later this afternoon - it's a great price for the Portal of Atlantis. Thanks for the note! They must focus on supplying their in store folks more than the online sales as the ones online were sold out the instance the sale came online.hatcher wrote:At 7:30 t his morning Barrie had about 8 that I could see on the shelf. What really ticks me off now is that they (Barrie TRU) were not willing to sell the Lego City Advent calendar as part of the 2 for $60 deal a few weeks back and now they are selling it for $29.99! They can rest assured that they will be getting the ones back that I bought for regular price (well, the ones that I will re-purchase).

World Racers Blizzard's Peak is also half price for $42.47 (reg.$79.99). Toys R Us marked it up by $5, but real savings still works out to be 47% off.
Most of the stores I've been to seems to be well stocked for the event. There were plenty of the half price items.
