LEGO's Description
Fight off the clone troopers with the Mandalorian Army!

A new force has entered Clone Wars on the side of the Separatists - the Mandalorians! Build up your Mandalorian Army and take the battle to the Clone Army with Mandalorian assassin and 3 Mandalorian trooper minifigures, each with their own unique weapon.

•Includes 4 minifigures: Mandalorian assassin and 3 Mandalorian troopers
•Features Mandalorian speeder, blaster turret and 5 weapons
•Each Mandalorian trooper features a unique weapon
•Blast the opposition with the big, blaster turret
•Deploy your forces against the #7913 Clone Trooper Battle Pack
•Mandalorian speeder measures 2” (5cm) wide, 3” (7cm) long
•Blaster turret measures 2” (5cm) wide and 2” (5cm) long
The Box

The box size is still the same as previous battle packs. After comparing this to the old 7654 Droid Battle Pack back in 2007, it looks like there has been a siginficant decrease in the amount of LEGO pieces. :(

Image

The back of the box shows a battle between the Mandalorians in this set and the Clone Troopers in set 7913.

The Minifigures

In this battle pack, you get 4 of the same Mandalorian minifigures. I was hoping for a Mandalorian Captain, but I guess LEGO will release it in some other set later on.

Each Mandalorian has a different weapon. The one on the far left has a portable laser canon, while the other 3 have different blasters. Its very cool that a minifigure can hold the portable laser canon. :)
Image

Unfortunately, the portable laser canon does not work. The instructions and box shows that the Mandalorian can hold on to the blaster and fight in the battlefield, but in reality, he can't. He cannot reach the handle of the blaster because his arms are too short. LEGO really needs to fix this.

The Set

The complete set. There's not much to it as there are no special features or functions. You get a mandalorian speeder and a turret. The speeder is ok and looks just like the one you see in the cartoons. For the turret however, it looks pathetic when you start comparing it with the turret in the 2007 Clone Troopers Battle Pack. The amount of pieces used are almost the same but its disappointing to know that LEGO

Image

For your reference, here's the 2007 Clone Troopers Battle Pack turret. Mandalorian Turret used 16 pieces pieces while the Clone Troopers Turret used 13 pieces. Yet, the Mandalorian Turret looks childish and very small despite using even more pieces.

Summary

An easy way to get some Mandalorians at a cheap price. However, there's not much in this set other than the minifigures. Also very disappointed to see battle pack sizes continue to decrease, yet prices continues to go up. There's almost nothing to build in a battle pack these days. :(

Ratings

Build: 3.75/5
Minifigures: 4.5/5
Pieces: 2/5
Price: 3/5
Play Features: 3.25/5
Overall: 3.25/5

I believe there is an optional way to value a battle pack, which may make you feel what you had paid was what you got. Consider $3 (in average - means not exclusive and hard to find) for each minifigure, and you get rest of the pieces for free if it is purchased from U.S. or 2.99 purchased from CAN.

That does seem like a better value if you view it in that perspective. :)

Maybe its because I used to own the older battle packs. Battle Packs used to be $9.99 USD / $12.99 CAD. Ever since the Clone Wars was launched, prices for the new LEGO Star Wars sets went up siginificantly. :? Battle Packs became $11.99 USD / $14.99 CAD. With the increase in price, I would expect at least the same amount of content. But no, I get even less. The amounts of pieces appears to be similar to previous generation of battle packs, but the sets are much smaller because LEGO is using smaller pieces. I think we need to start weighing the sets. :P

But I do agree with you that Battle Packs are still a good deal. You don't find $3-$4 Star Wars minifigures in many other sets. In many of the bigger sets, LEGO just throw in a couple of minifigures.

I'm pretty sure that the Mandalorian can use the portable laser cannon but he has to be holding it up first. I think your expectations are more than what was promised. I do agree with you about the turret though. The original one looks much better.

Right..... this is the main point. It's a pxxs off for getting less pieces with higher price. Set like 8087 Tie Defender is one of a typical example, and it is still at the top of my "holding out" list.

I agree with ice it seemed like a better deal with the 2007 ones, droid battle pack gave you a stap 3supers,4regulars,and a transport all for 10$/13$,clone battlepack gave you a NICELY built speeder and Turret with a shock trooper, star corps trooper, also with 2 regulars :)

Thanks, I'll try it out! I do admit that I have very high expections for LEGO.

Ya when you look at the old battle packs, you can tell that there's a big difference. If you look at the 2009 battle pack, you only get a tiny little speeder and 5 droids. The 2007 droid battle pack had 7 droids, a droid carrier, and a STAP. You pay a higher price but get even less.

It would have been nice if there was at least one different colored armor mando. Maybe black and grey? What distinguished the non-clone mandalorians was the variety of armor schemes. But here we have a set thats more cloned than the guys in white.
