no smurfs, hello kitty, or spiderman

Why isnt lego doing more licensed lines? I just saw the other brick company has smurfs, hello kitty, and spiderman. I guess no future spiderman sets either?

Spiderman is technically a Disney property, so you might still see new sets in LEGO form if Marvel benevolent overlords decide to share the wealth.

As for why, I think anyone that could give you an authoritative answer is very unlikely to do so, but I imagine it comes down to cost/profit and red tape/creative freedom.

disney has plenty of licensed characters and themes. the only issue is whether there's any demand for the legorized versions of these themes/characters. something that the marketing dept should handle.

Hello Kitty is an evergreen product line, there's always some sort of demand. Smurfs demand will increase around the time of the new movie, but that's about it. If there's a new Spiderman movie, maybe Disney will shift the licensing back to Lego. Depending on how the Cars 2 and PotC lines sell.

I think megabloks has the license for marvel characters right now. That might explain why lego doesn't have the license.

Mega Crap might have some good contracts and unique pieces but the quality of product is similar to eating a hot dog vs. fillet mignon. Both may taste "good", but only one is made of lips, ears, genitals, and ****oles.

Hello Kitty Mystery Figure...

Post by atmail35 » Mon Jun 27, 2011 4:35 pm

Image

Packed like CMF. Get one mystery of 8. We saw them at Borders for $3.50 each and my daughter convinced me to buy her one. It is cute, but you get 3 pieces - plate, accessory and Hello Kitty. The Hello Kitty feels pretty "cheap" and her paint on her eye was smudged and she had a red mark on her head. Definitely poor quality but the kid loves Hello Kitty.

The booklet lists other sets you can buy. No instructions needed since you don't put together the figure. No real checklist either, which is lame.

Are they available in Canada? If not, I'll have to find a Border on my Mass. trip in November.

Well Borders might be out of business by November!

I'm going to guess TRU will have them soon (or maybe already does?). I have not looked for them at TRU. They caught our eye at the checkout at Borders today. Like the darn candy in the grocery aisle.

Of course Borders just issued a 20% off everything coupon last night, which would work on the Hello Kitty packs...I'm going to get a few more. And they are easy to feel the parts. I'll post the coupon in Sales and Deals if anyone needs HK figures ;)

ETA: I should have known, these blind packs' MSRP is $2.49! **** that Borders Markup. And TRU I think has the small sets which have an MSRP of $3.99 at $4.99!
