Barnes and Noble Paid Membership - worth it?

Post by atmail35 » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:07 am

If someone here has the paid Barnes and Noble membership, is it worth it for $25? We really don't buy a ton of books these days, maybe kids books and that is about it. I doubt book purchases alone would make up the $25 in a year.

What are your favorite benefits? 10% off your purchase? Is that good on Lego?

Do you get regular coupons that would be applicable to Lego? I swear I never see B&N coupons, aside from the 30% off for new Kids Clubs members and I think that might be over?

With Borders excluding toys I'm wondering if B&N will be my next step since B&N seems to carry Lego at MSRP.

thanks!

I'll double down on your question with more questions. I joined the kid's club, which was free to join. That got me a 30% off kid's toy coupon. But the thing is, I have that one and other coupons, and none of them seem to work at all. The Lego on the site all say on their product page that coupons don't apply. I also got emailed a 50% off one item coupon that doesn't seem to work on anything - I even tried books and a DVD collection. It's frustrating to say the least, especially the 50% off coupon. I read all the fine print and I don't understand why it doesn't work on anything, even a simple paperback book.

I know that the draw of the kids' club is that for items marked as eligible (includes all the Lego sets I've seen), buying $100 worth of merchandise gets you $5 in gift card money. Not exactly a steal.

What drew me to B&N by the way, is that they have a 10% off preorders for PotC sets.

I would say that it's worth it. 10% off your purchase is really nifty, and you seem to get shipped more coupon offers as a member. I never buy anything from BnN without a coupon these days. I'd say about every 3 months they send out a 'random' coupon that's 50% but its only good instore.

You definitely get regular coupons, but as Zeya pointed out they generally aren't good online on LEGO. However, they will work just fine in the store on LEGO. So if you use a couple of 25% off coupons on LEGO sets over the course of the year, you should at least break even on the membership. I believe membership also gives you free shipping from the website if you buy non-LEGO from the site.

You are correct, Free Shipping from the Website for any B&N Member.

I bought a Membership, and it is COMPLETELY worth it. I made my $25 back during the first "Roulette" discount (50% off) they did earlier. This time around (beginning of April), I hit them up again. I also hit them up for about 5-10 sets for 30% off (several via the website, several via in store). You only get the 'extra' 10% off IN STORES though. Well worth it if you have a B&N or two in your area that carries Legos or if you are at least interested in Lego Games... almost every B&N I've seen AT LEAST carries the Architecture Line as well as several Lego games.

Btw, you do BEST when you can go in store, since half their coupons don't work for Lego online.
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.
