Its been a long time since we had a weekly poll. The last one was back in December 2010! The main reason is that we're out of questions! If you have any suggestions for future polls, please contact us.

This week's question is on our contests. Should we offer only one prize or should we offer multiple prizes so we can have more winners? If its only one prize, the prize value for the winner will be bigger. With multiple prizes, the chances of winning will be higher but that also brings the prize value for each winner to be lower. As usual, comments and suggestions are more than welcome.

Just my opinion...I would be way more excited about maybe winning a larger more expensive set, than a smaller cheaper set that I would be likely to buy on my own on an impulse. Bottom line: Bigger Prizes = More Excitement.

I voted multiple prizes. But I think they should be different sizes, for example if first place was a $20 set, second place a $10 set and third place a $5 set like a keychain or impulse set. Of course if the prize were one big set the contestants would try harder to win.

I voted multiple smaller prizes myself. I agree with Brickbuilder about a 'tiered' prize system. I think if you gave something like a $20 set for first place, and then even just a $5 for 2nd and 3rd would be nice.

The winner gets 'something' of value and is decent enough for people to put in hard work/effort. The smaller prizes aren't much, but at least you are recognized for the hard work and effort you put in. Maybe it should also depend on the contest? If it's a contest that involves LOTS of time and effort, multiple prizes. If it's some kind of 'unique' and 'fun' contest, than 1 Grand prize.

While this is true, TnB is still a fledgling site and so far Ice has to fronted all the prizes himself. I don't know anything about the financials of the site, but, hosting a slew of my own sites, I know it takes a while to make enough revenue just pay for your web hosting plan, much less turn a profit. As the site grows in popularity, I'm sure the ads and affiliate links will see more activity and the contest prizes will grow proportionally. For now, though, unless someone here is willing to be a generous benefactor and donate prizes, they will remain at a level that Ice can swing.

I voted multiple smaller. I do agree that one "medium" prize and maybe two other consolation prizes (CMF, polybag) would work as it gives incentive to put for the effort to win but gives a few that participated something as well. The total of the prizes could equal what would be spent on the larger one (on sale of course :))

I think more people will join the contest if there is a greater chance of them winning something.

I voted Multiple prizes but the Grand Prize/1st place or whatever could be at least slightly larger than the others.

Does the owner of the site automatically cough up all the monies to pay for the prizes? Do you ever accept sets to be given away in the next contest? I follow another forum at Bricks in Motion and some of their contests have donations as the prize.

Multiple smaller prizes. Having just one grand prize discourages people from entering because their likely hood of winning appears to be decreased. A small prize is better than no prize at all.

That said you should still have a larger grand prize than the rest of them.

I would have some sort of tiered system for the several prizes.

Another thought is a prize pool so you could choose {or endure a random selection} from a known assortment and not necessarily be set with a kit like a battlepack you already have from the splash photo page {though you may still get it, surpise :D} .

However I would explore sourcing some of the prizes from some donations. Not just items fresh off the shelf items but perhaps say someone found a less-commonly-found-but-often-sought set like "Ambush in Cario" on the east coast and added it to the prize pool. Perhaps members looking for it from the west might find it worth an entry to the contest, or find it a pleasing runner up prize.

I'd think donations are always accepted.

I don't think anyone would turn down a donation. If you're that kind or giving go for it.
