I just noticed on the sales and deals page that LEGO Universe is now only $9.99 USD.

Buy Now: $9.99 USA | $13.75 Canada | £7.49 UK

I wonder if this is indication that it is far too expensive for the demographic it's aimed at?

It is $13.75 CAD and free shipping. So I guess I received a really expensive LEGO Universe Minifigure when I preordered it.

I think it the monthly fees that are killing sales. What kids have the $15 a month (or whatever it is) to play?
Who is General Failure and why is he reading my hard disk?

Yeah, ditto. I haven't even played the game. Just beta tested it!

I had about 6 a month when I was a kid...even in high school the money isn't much more than that. Granted, kids often get game systems that cost much more than that, but many people don't compare the price difference between one game system and tons of games or one online game plus a monthly subscription (probably lasts longer).

I think they should have kept the game price at $30 or $40 and instead of a free month give kids a free year.

Plus maybe even have a system where if you send in USBs from LEGO sets you get free months added on. It's a shame to see a game that took yours to make fall apart within 6 months.

That would make things worth it. It draws kids more towards the sets as well as making it easier for those whose parents (when I was young, mine wouldn't) buy them memberships/subscriptions.

That is a brilliant idea actually. They might even get some AFOL's who might play because they purchase so many sets, and get hooked and pay the monthly fee... would be a great business model.
I have mixed feelings about new releases: I can't wait to see and get the new sets... but I can't figure out where I'm gonna put them or store them.

My son loves this game. We bought it when it first came out at full-price and got the rocket model. We pretty much buy it month-to-month letting a few weeks go buy in between months. Still, his interest hasn't waned. They're about to launch "Crux Prime" a level that features the Ninjago universe, so it should be big with the kids. I wish they would drop the prices to something more in line with Clone Wars Adventures (i.e. $14.95 for 3 months access or $5.95 per month).

The kids who could play LEGO Universe are the kids who could play World of Warcraft, and those kids probably won't want to play LEGO Universe. That's just about the only game that is more expensive than LU.

WoW is more for older teens and adults, I picture the LU group as being 8-12, and $10 a month (it's $10 right?) is way too much.

Exactly my point. I can get a 3 month membership in many games for 21 dollars and I don't HAVE to have a membership to play.

Instead of MMO's perhaps they should have done a standalone RPG first? I'm more fond of the action Lego games like Lego Star Wars and Lego Batman and so on and so forth, but it would have been nice to have a traditional RPG like Final Fantasy or any other typical RPG. I just would love to customize my character with armor and helmets and weapons and change his look BUT not in an MMO enviroment where i have to pay to play. Combine that with the dedication of getting to higher levels and consuming lots of in real life time. I don't need that addiction again!
