Questions about the Orlando, FL/Downtown Disney Lego store

Post by atmail35 » Mon Jan 31, 2011 12:38 pm

We will be at Disney later in the year and I was wondering if the Downtown Disney Lego Store is any different than the standard Mall Lego store. We a few Lego stores nearby so I'm wondering if it is worth going to the Downtown Disney store.

Is the Pick-A-Brick wall bigger than an "average" store? Any extra features worth checking out?

I've only been in this store once, and that was 4 years ago before I came out of my dark ages so I don't remember a whole lot, but you may find what you are looking for in this topic:

Nah it has the same selections. I was just there in July and the only difference I saw is that it was a little bigger than the one I frequent at home.

thanks for the link, sorry I should have done a search first! Good to know in advance that it isn't too different from other stores. I appreciate the feedback.

The Downtown Disney Lego Store is currently receiving an extreme makeover. Basically they are expanding, and the store will be much larger when it reopens at the end of spring, early summer. They will have the largest PAB selection of any of the LEGO retail stores. I highly recommend that you visit the new store.

Oh interesting....is there any info on if they will be closed during renovations?

I did a search and found that the new store will be expanded an additional 3,500 square feet. The new store will feature new exterior Lego brick Disney characters. A temporary store is open between Once Upon A Toy and Earl of Sandwich until the expansion is completed in mid April .

I have been to the Downtown Disney store numerous times. It is the first LEGO store that I had ever visited. I was under the assumption that most LEGO stores were similar. However, while visiting family in Dallas this past January, we visited the store there. What a huge difference. The size was a big thing. The Downtown Disney store is quite large. Also, the DD store has outdoor building areas and a racetrack. There is also a small playground. Plus, all the LEGO statues and such. There is also quite a few computers for the kids to do activities. It is more of an experience as well. Not just a shopping trip.

Thanks for the additional info. I hope the new expanded store is open when we go as I'd definitely check it out. :)

The Orlando store is the "Flagship" store. That is they it has more computers, a larger store size, outdoor statues, etc.

Has anyone heard anything more about when the expansion might be finished? I checked the Lego website and didn't see any info. Mid-April is almost here and I thought there might be info about the grand re-opening soon.

The family and I are headed to Disney on Saturday (23 April). If no official word is posted by then, I'll stop by and see if I can get any idea what sort of state the store is in. Would be nice if it opened up while we were there!

I just checked the Orlando Store page on Lego.com and it looks like the Downtown Disney's Newly Remodeled store opened on April 19th. No word of a re-grand opening celebration (do they do those?) but it looks like it is open.

jbrandt77 I'd love to hear a brief review on the store if you go next week. I'd especially like to know how the PAB Wall is and the BAM section. ;) Really any comments on how this store is "better" than a regular Mall Lego store would be great!

When they remodeled the Mall of America store, they had a grand re-opening, so it is something they do.

dehnehsu - thanks for that link, that was very helpful. We might have to stop by to see the giant models...and the PAB wall looks huge!

The Snow White and seven dwarfs in lego really makes me believe they should make some more Disney sets...the large statues even had the minifigure hands....Lego please make some more Disney themes (w/ people)!

The store reopened a few weeks ago. Now, here's the kicker... The pick a brick wall is ACTUALLY 4 bins SHORTER than before renovation! Instead of 40x6 it's now 36x6. However I have found out that dark tan, dark blue, and dark red parts were found.
