Reminder: Update your Profiles with your Location

Can there be a another front page reminder for people to update their profiles so when they make a post it is automatically noted where the finds are? I know some people are good about it, but it might be a nice reminder for new members. I don't think the name of the city a person comes from is revealing too much. It's nice to know if the deals are close to home.

For those that do not know how to do this... all you have to do is
1) Click on User Control Panel located top left
2) Go to Profile
3) Fill in your Location (City, State/Province, Country)

Just want to pipe in and say that's its a good idea to put your location in your profile, if not the exact city at least a general area like 'Chicagoland.' When people know where you're posting from they can find deals closer to them and everyone saves.

The more you share the more we all get out of it. Be kind and people will reciprocate.

Making the topic sticky and global is good, but if it's possible, maybe we could do one better. Make it manditory to set your location. I don't know if that's technically possible with this forum software, but it would be really nice. You wouldn't even have to be very specific with your location; even just what half of what state/territory you are in. "Northern California" or even just "Canada" is fine. If they don't want to say for some reason then they can just put "Opt Out" or something. But somehow make it a manditory field when signing up for the forums. You could also send an email every week to existing members who don't have that field set.

Making it mandatory might make people question joining the site. I didn't post my location when I first signed up and only did it after I was comfortable with the community around me. I'm glad I did it and now people can see where I am posting from but making other people put it down might put them off.

That's a good point. I wouldn't want to discourage people from joining the forums here.

Thanks for the suggestion Zeya. I think one of the reasons why people don't put their location is because they don't know how to. The "Location" field is now mandatory when registering. I understand the frustration people are feeling when members post a deal but not their location. This field will also help fight against spam. :D
